Default Do we need a jump take off gyro?

This question arose from the ELFINO case; This powered rotor gyro has the capability to jump for take off...
I say that this gyro is not for every one because a jump take off is actually a stunt!...Cause this take off is a relatively high G manoeuver which needs a lot and demanding control from the pilot.
What do you think???

Who said it was supposed to be for everyone?

Is flying a helicopter a "stunt"? Is it for everyone?

I don't really understand your point.............

Hello Andre, that still leaves the question; why are you calling it a stunt?

What do you mean by “High G”?

I am not a jump take off enthusiast, but I can see it has value in certain situations.

I was taught in a Robinson 44 to not climb above ten feet until I had reached 40 knots, but there are times when something was in the way and that called for a more complex and dangerous takeoff.

Both operations have risk attached because options are reduced as related to the height-velocity curve and an increased vigilance is required on the part of the pilot. Does that make all short takeoffs in rotorcraft a stunt?

I loved watching Dick do jump take offs. It felt it was expanding the capability of autogiros.

Thank you, Vance

Hi,
JTO in a gyro need not be the complex beast it is so often made out to be. LFINO does it with ease. Every time. But if JTO spooks folks, then surely 20-30ft runs and then dropping the collective seems to me an eminently do-able takeoff which wouldn't demand very much of the pilot (providing the gyro has collective pitch control, of course). A stunt? No. Just new. Accept it, mate - it's the way of the future.

Regards,
Duncan

Duncan, JTO is not new at all! it was a standard feature of the Pitcairn tractor gyroplane (and many others of the time...)!...

Yes Duncan, powered rotor take off is the Future of rotary wings!!!

I think that a JTO isn’t what many gyro pilots are looking for.
I think we need a term for a very short takeoff.
A gyro that can takeoff in less than 25 feet would be called a VST (very short Takeoff)
I want a very short takeoff gyro not jump gyro.
If you want a jump take off get a helicopter.

In another thread. I guy has a gyro with a auto adjusting blades. He made it to help with over spinning or something. not for pre-rotation and that is what it should be used for.

You can set the blades for takeoff spin up the blades and at the adjusted rrpm say just under your flight rrpm ( 300) they spring back to flight pitch. you them can go full power just like a touch and go, but just go.

There is quite a big gap between expensive small helicopters and relatively cheap gyros. I think JTO will fill the gap.

To me helicopters are too expensive to buy, operate and maintain.
Gyro's (for me) lack vertical take-off.

I don't know how to do it but maybe we should have a vote on who looked at or wanted to fly helis but settled on gyro's because of the expense.

If the site I was operating from was restricted enough to require jump takeoff
capability, I wouldnt want to use it anyway, from a general safety point of view.

JTO has been do-able, for some time, and if there were a substantial market
demand for it, someone would be selling them.

The fact is, a niche section of a niche section of a minority activity is unlikely
to warrant much outlay.

I have experienced a rolling-jump takeoff in a A&S-18A, and it was very interesting, and fun. But it was done from a runway,on an airfield, so it
wasnt necessary.
I'd love to know how many folks have operated such an aircraft out of
a non-airfield environment. I suspect VERY few, if any.
