Welcome. The Brock KB-2 was not designed for a rotax engine. It used a direct drive McCulloch drone engine with prop diameter of 50" (+ or - 1 or 2"). A rotax engine uses a reduction gearbox and most use a prop diameter of 60" and up. In order to use a Rotax engine on a KB-2 frame you will need to make some modifications to accommodate the larger prop and also taking into account the change in engine thrust line. It may be easier to go with a design that was made to use Rotax engines.

Ok, the kb2 plans were sold with a vw engine plan I believe. I just would like a set of the kb plans but would not like to use the old Drone engine. Can anyone tell me if the design is stable enough with the VW engine and would a t tail or tall tail conversion be enough to make it a stable and safer machine. I know it won't be CLT in stock version but does anyone have any knowledge concerning the addition of a HS improving it's handling?

Hi
The Bensen gyrocopter can be flown successfully with VW engine. many have..... the T Tail modification makes it better I understand. never seen one with tall tail. There are some Bensen plans on ebay. KB2 is/was similar to Bensen. Good Luck! |

The KB3 was designed for the Rotax, you should probably be looking for the KB3 plans. Even at that, a lot of the KB3 owners did a drop keel to lower the thrust line, probably what you will have to do to the KB2 to get a Rotax to work, if the mast is long enough.

Sparrow hawk / 3DRV is a great little gyroplane http://www.phoenix-rotorcraft.com/ was offering kits but no one wanted any. You might ask him for just the plates that are cut and you get the tubes to make it his tall tail and HS will fit it.
