Doug and Greg, thanks for the replys....This is why I am asking questions. I just purchased a 25K Powered Parachute a few months back (Powrachute), I went up in Mentone, and said I had to have one. Well my Instructor had a GYRO (Caldius) and was fricken sweet, however 95K is out of my range right now, still paying off my Corvette I bought a couple years back.
Saftey is a major factor for me, that is why I did alot of research on the Powered Parachutes before I bought one. So basically I am at it all over again, however tho in the Gyro market....Fixed wing will probably be next. Doug, I will have to start looking into some of those other brands, and is buying used good? I have always been one that likes to buy things new, dont really want anyone else's junk is the way I always looked at it. Greg, see your not to far from me up in Hamtramack, I have customer up in Redford. Is it possible to meet up some day and show me what I should be looking for? Sounds like your big into Yamaha, however I wont go their. I used to race Jetski's professionaly back in the day and was a big fan of the Rotax engines (Seadoo's). Hey guys really apprecitate the response, like I said I am new to this and want to get going in the right direction. Like I indicated, there was a guy that died about a year or so ago in Erie, Michigan. So my main concern is getting something safe. Thanks, Dan |

I would say that the Hornet built from plans was conservatively between 14-16K.
Training I spread over two years and 30hr to the PPL licence being granted, did not cost out, just did it.

Please check out Tim Oconners book "You Can Afford To Be A Pilot". A wealth of information beyond machine selection. Very informative for you, which is me a year ago.
Hey Doug! You didn't mention Dodge! |

Hey Dan - you mentioned fixed wing, and that's how I started. Just like you, what sparked it was an ultralight flight. It was a whole new dimension. I had to learn more. I wanted the best education and the safest road to flying. I went farther with the FW than I thought I would. Getting a FW rating is a lot easier, but likely more expensive. A great foundation for learning rules, regs, communications, patterns, even weather.
Now I am learning to fly gyros which is like riding a motorcycle compared to a Cessna 'minivan.' Just keep flying any way you can and keep us posted on your progress, we're all here to help. Bob |

Hey guys just want to say thanks again for all the info. I am checking out some of the manufactures that were mentioned. I did not realize that that gyro's were safe, like I indicated earlier, I was at Mentone this year, but to check out the Powered Parachute's and ended up buying one. Looking more into the gyro's they look nice, and looks like you can fly in windier conditions (the reason why I am looking into adding another toy to the garage). So I think I will spend this winter learning more about this sport/hobby just hopeing I can wait that long. Normally when I want something I end up getting it, but I do my best at totatly finding out what is best buy and safest.
So if anyone is near Maumee, OH and has some time and wouldnt mind showing me some things to look for and educateing me a little bit, it would be greatly appreciated. I will drive to your location and even buy lunch! ![]() Thanks Again guy. I like to see active forums! |
