Have you tried looking at McMaster Carr http://www.mcmaster.com/# They seem to have a good selection of U joints

Hi Marc

Went to their website, looks like one way or the other they will have what I need. May have to do some expensive experimenting, but have already started that

(good site for all sorts of things)

If the joint is only three eights inch across, could you have the starter manufacturer broach an adapter to fit the motor and a three eights counterbore on the end. Cut the u joint to fit into the counterbore and weld the seam?

Jeff

The "cross bone" is 3/8 inch across, the U joint body is 3/4 inch in Dia. with a basic 3/8 inch smooth bore, and this gives me an idea, more later. McMaster & Carr may have better deals on the U joints though
