Default cable control stops

Gonna cover something here that most of you have already considered and then dealt with accordingly. This area concerns the throttle cables in particular, yet should be applied to all cabled controls on the gyro. This is about taxing or laxing your cable stroke. Enough stroke is all you need, any more and or any less could spell troubles. In the area of cabled carbureator controls, we deal with what are known as "splitters" These are hollow threaded tubes that mate two cables into a one cable combo, or three cables mating into a one cable combo, depending on oil injection or not. These multiple cables are all heading to the singular throttle cable, the one at your hand. I do my best to securely connect together this cableing. I load test this cable mating for assurance. I then determine the amount of stroke required and have very minimal added for additional. In the case of the carb controls, I have an inline cable adjust splitter and of course the cable synchronizers located on the top side of each BING carb. I start by balancing my carb slides to cable pull and then adjust the cableing so as not to have un-needed load pressure upon the cable. I know that there are vaccum pressure gauges available for carb-cylinder calibration, and this a good idea also. My point here is not to stress the cableing and possibly have a breakdown. I can't assume that everyone double checks this. My apoligies if so. MJD.

Default A good point!

Part of my preflight is to cycle the throttle and mixture cables.

I want to hear them hit the stops on the throttle quadrant and then I check to see that I have full travel back at the fuel injection.

It is easy to not get full travel and during some excitement it is easy to pull the ends right off the cables.

Thank you, Vance
