With gyros we are probably more threatened by bird strike from behind, aren't we?
Yes.
Our weakest point is our prop or control rods.
I had an eagle give me hell for a coupla months years ago.
The first clue he was tailing me was his shadow behind mine.
He'd always be just behind and above, and lineing up to dive at my ass.

It all ended wen he met Harry.

Saw a gyro claimed to have met a bird strike.

But later came to know the bird was sitting on a tree.

My flight the other evening was over a home that had some Purple Martin houses in his back yard. I saw a couple of Purple Martins come at me, then turn their beige underside to me as they thought I was a bit larger than the mosquitos they diet on.

It wouldnt have hurt my rotor..as they are small birds...but he came close.

I see Purple Martins all the time in my chopper channel while I am mowing it. I think I must be stirring up insects as they are constantly diving around the mower going helter skelter.....
