Default Atc

My Instructor turned me on to this site. I am working on my radio calls along with ATIS information. I know most Gyro pilots dont fly in controlled airspace, but for those that are in training like myselfe this is a neat place to just be able to listen to air traffic control and the responses.

www.liveatc.net

Not all airports are covered but all of the majors are. I have been listening to the Hayward Executive Tower frequency and it is good to hear the call and response from the tower and aircraft.

Talking Just tuned in.....

to the tower @ my Aussie port of entry & birthplace!!! YBBN......God I love listening to those familiar accents .... Darn I'm almost homesick!!!!
Busy enough even late at night! Good to reinforce the towered airspace lessons!

If you train at an airport that is listed on the websiet (for example KHWD which is Hayward Executive) and you know what date and time you were training you can check the archives and listen to your radio traffic

Since all air traffic is dated and timed in UTC (GMT) then you have to do some conversion.
California is GMT -7...so you add 7 hours to the time that you flew and you can look up the archive and see how bad (or good) you did on your radio calls.

For just a few more weeks. When daylight time ends next month, it will be -8.

And the sun will be down so early then that you can practice night flights into controlled airspace without losing sleep. It's a good time to practice, because there is often less traffic, spotting it is easier because of their lights, and airport beacons and runway approach lights are easy to locate from fairly far away.

I agree with everything you said except approach lights being easy to locate from fairly far away. I've been 5 miles out from an international airport and not seen the runway at night. It depends on the surrounding area.

Runway lights themselves can be hard to see in some places, but the approach lights can be rather garish, and if you have the "rabbit" running it sure gets my attention.

well Im not quite that far yet. I think I can get enough time in over the next few weeks that i will be ready to solo. My landings are not very consistant. Im still having a bit of a time trying to keep the bird level so that I can correctly intercept the landing spot on my windscreen. My take off's are much improved and I grasp the small things that I need to correct and they are not nearly as scary as they were the first few times. The next few outings we will be working on hover and straight in autos!!
