Hello,

"Same procedure as EVERY year" (probably only Germans know this quote).

The data, as always, is based on the Aerokurier magazin which is closely associated to the DAEC, one of the 2 ultralight clubs where our type of ULs get registered.

In Germany gyroplanes belong to the Ultralight class. This class of aircraft is similarly regulated as the LSA-class in the US, the main difference being, the MTOW limit of 450 kg (992 lbs). That is, until this year, now the limit for gyroplanes, and only gyroplanes, went up to 560 kg (1234 lbs) .

New registrations for 3-axis went down from 167 to 141 for the second year in a row, Gyroplanes went slightly up this year from 75 to 83.

But....There is a new kid on the block. Trixy had its debut in 2012 and already is showing significant sales numbers, giving the undisputed market leader a run for his money. Also Ela has entered the German market.

The detailed models, with last year's numbers in brackets:

26 ( 1) Cavalon
22 (37) MTOsport
19 ( - ) Trixy G4-2 R
7 ( 4) Magni M24
4 (27) Calidus
3 ( - ) Ela 07 Cougar
1 ( -) Xenon
1 ( -) Ela
0 ( 4) Magni M16

This year brings current 3-axis registrations slightly up to 3718 while currently there are 421 gyros registered in Germany (no change).

3-Axis licenses were going up from 16307 to 17281
Gyro licenses went up from 886 to 1109.

Kai - thanks for those stats - excellent public data dissemination.

I know the UK CAA also publish similar data and I will report back soon.

Good to see Trixy doing so well. Interesting to see which gyros are missing altogether from your data.

Unfortunately some countries are far less informative.

The UK CAA published these stats on 1.1.13

Total number of gyros registered 322

Of these 151 had valid permits and 171 had invalid permits

They also show base stats every year since 1985 - a selection of dates shows

Number of gyros Registered in

1985 - 115
1995 - 243
2005 - 250
2013 - 322

A rise, a stagnant period and another rise - the vast vast majority of the growth in the past 10 years are "turn key" machines.

Stats for the following are valid as at today

Calidus - 20
Cavalon - 1
MT-03 - 44
MTOsport- 43
M16 - 25
M24C -12
ELA - 2

the above totals approx 145

A number of older types carry on in addition but are in decline.

The UK CAA website is available for everybody to view and search - if you enjoy research take a look lots of Spitfires, GA, microlights, biz jets, airliners, balloons, helicopters, gyro and gliders too - it's all their to browse.

ok, not really the season nor the subject, here is the video of "Dinner for One" (sorry Juergen you need a proxy from Germany). At the beginning a guy explains what is happening, you can skip him until the butler is setting the table.

here a video about the strange phenonemon itself:

The TV-guide will list this show on most channels at various times during New Year's Eve, and only then, and only in German and German speaking countries (other countries have shown it, but not on NYE and not every one since 1972).
