Default Some thoughts on gyroplane design

I am a near centerline thrust enthusiast so I will try to paraphrase the reasons I have heard for not wanting near centerline thrust and I suspect someone will correct me if I get it wrong.

1. People feel center line thrust gyroplanes are ugly.
2. People feel center line thrust gyroplanes are difficult to get into.
3. Near center line thrust is difficult to achieve with varible pilot and fuel loads.
4. Near center line thrust gyroplanes are more convoluted structurally.
5. People feel that near center line thrust gyroplanes have poorer ground handling.

The advantages of a high thrust line gyroplane over near centerline thrust gyroplane that I can think of are:
1. They tend to be more trimmed airspeed stable.
2. The nose doesn’t drop when you pull back the power suddenly. (The value of this is debatable)
3. There are more two place tandem high thrust line gyroplanes to copy.
4. There are more commercially successful high thrust line gyroplanes out there.
5. I have heard it said that ground handling is better with a lower center of gravity. (my experience does not bear this out and neither do the NTSB reports)

Thank you, Vance
