Hi
A browse through the FAA aircraft registration CANCELLATIONS over the past few weeks shows a large amount of "ye olde gyros" being cancelled - this looks like quiet a large cull - note that in among the cancellations must have been at least 15 examples of the Mini 500 chopper too. I may well have missed some as types such as "BILLY BOB HOT DOG 101" doesn't always register in my mind as a gyro..... I didn't spot any new gyros registered in the past couple of weeks ( apologies if I missed yours ) Cancellations N6UF CRAIG B-8M T8225C A7C455 2012-08-30 N9RX COLEMAN TIMOTHY LEE B-8TC T801115C AC6C07 1994-06-16 N46LW HERRON R/LITTLE WING LITTLE WING AUTOGYRO LW-2 A59851 2012-08-06 N49DE EDGAR DONALD L B8M 1DE A60E0F N81TC CARLSON THOMAS C AIR COMMAND 532 TC002 AB08AF 1990-02-09 N87DS STERRETT DICK RAF 2000 H2-99-10-428 ABF459 2003-02-19 N131V BENSEN B7-MCDESIGN HARMON GYROCOPTER 1 A080C3 1975-07-31 N252RJ JANSEN-RUSSELL BENSEN B8MG 112260 A2606C 1991-04-01 N257X FOLEY JOHN DARREN SPLIT-KEEL B8 001 A2738C 2005-06-16 N425LM DOBBS RONNIE D 2000 GTX H2-00-11-458 A50F38 2012-08-23 N431LM MCCOLLUM LIONEL D KB-2 1 A527DB 1989-08-16 N544SM MCGOWAN STEVE A B-8M 001 A6E864 2012-08-21 N1033F PIEDRAS EUGENIO JOSE BENSEN B-8M EJP2 A012A0 2012-08-20 N1089 FOCHT B-8M 1 A025FF 2012-08-30 N1793 AUSTIN-BENSEN B-8M 001 A13D5D 2012-08-13 N1849 BENSON B-8D DC-1944 A1531B 1973-05-29 N2288X HOPPER-JOHN BENSEN B-8M 1027211549 A2023F 2012-08-13 N2289Z HILLER-CLARCQ UH-12B 574 A20264 2012-08-30 N2293 GYROCOPTER B-8MEJ 90305 A20531 2012-08-13 N2294 TOOTHAKER-BENSEN B-8M MJT3-16-53 A20554 2012-08-13 N2318B ATKINS-BENSEN B-8M 22513 A20FA9 2012-08-13 N2332 DASSO-BENSEN B-8M EED1 A21643 2012-08-14 N2365 BENSEN B-8 JH1 A221D1 2012-08-14 N2458B BENSEN B-8 3884 A24604 2009-07-14 N2479 WOODRUFF GYROPLANE 101 A24D93 2012-08-21 N2482 KLEINE BENSEN B-8M 1 A25055 2012-08-21 N2490 GYRODYNE CO OF AM IN BENSEN B-8M WB-1 A253C6 2012-08-21 N2520 WOLATZ B-8M 1 A26144 2012-08-21 N2541 ZMUDA BARNETT GYROPLANE 1 A268D5 2012-08-21 N2596 FITZPATRICK B-8M 1 A27C17 1989-07-26 N2681 BENSEN B-8 GK4-1 A29F30 2009-10-14 N2726 ISSAACSON B-8M 1 A2B114 2012-08-27 N2734 DANIEL BOWSER B-8MJ DB-1 A2B485 2012-08-27 N2755 DOWNS B-8M 1 A2BC16 2012-08-27 N3175 BENSEN-LOWREY B8-M RS-1 A363D9 2012-08-23 N3281 BENSEN B-8M GYRO-COPTER AF23892178 A38E83 N3500 JOHNSON BENSEN B8 HWJ-1-1 A3E725 2010-12-22 N3774N CABINO JOSEPH V BENSEN GYROCOPTER 1 A450BD 2011-04-08 N3838 KNOLL BENSEN B-8M KA-001 A469DF 2011-01-21 N3998W WALCZVKIEWICZ BARRY KB-2 540203 A4A7BD 1991-03-13 N4085J JERNIGAN FRED S JR KB-2 001FJ A4CD69 2009-02-13 N4209E STARK ROBERT G STARK GYRO 001 A4FF37 2010-04-02 N4415W SQUIRES WILLIAM C BENSEN B80 15007 A55170 1991-04-30 N4501 BENSEN MODIFIED B-8M 1 A57497 2012-08-13 N4544L SEDERBERG STANTON E BENSON B-8M 1 A583E7 1997-11-19 N4579C COLMAN JOHN PATRICK BENSEN B-8M 2544 A58FB3 1991-04-05 N4579J JOY GEORGE CARROLL B8M GYROCOPTER G6535J A58FB9 1991-04-12 N4661S MANNING-BENSEN B-8M B8M-DM2 A5B271 2012-08-22 N4697A BENSEN B-8M GYROCOPTER BCBE-1 A5BE58 2012-08-23 N4775T RUSSELL GYROPLANE BR-1 1R A5DE34 2012-08-23 N4817 BENSEN GYROCOPER B-8M X1 A5EF9D 1968-09-17 N5198 BENSEN SABAT B-8M 3115 A6864E 2012-08-14 N5490 PHILLIPS GYROPLANE MOD 1 1 A6FBB3 2012-08-22 N5797 SMITH BARNETT 24B GYRO PLA 1 A77325 2012-08-27 N5854 ALTIZER GYROCOPTER HB19711 A78B5F 2012-08-30 N5917 BENSEN B-8 GDB-942 A7A46B 2012-08-30 N6155S AIR & SPACE AMERICA 18A 18-66 A80469 2006-01-19 N6165S AIR & SPACE AMERICA 18A 18-79 A80820 2012-08-30 N6391V DAY DARREN J RAF 2000 DH2 A861BA 1994-03-18 N9128 JOY GEORGE CARROLL B8M GYROCOPTER G4579J ACA189 2012-08-14 N15069 KELLETT KD-1B AUTOGIRO 101 A0CD7B 1956-01-31 N25402 TUCKER BENSEN B-8ME 4444 A268CD 2012-08-21 N25581 BAUER BENSEN B-8M 66660 A26D9B 2012-08-21 N26016 COTTER BENSEN B-8M GSC-1 A28197 2012-08-22 N26871 RILEY BENSEN B-8M 11409 A2A01C 2012-08-23 N29579 KRAUSE B-8M 1 A30B7C 2012-08-30 N32652 ROBINSON HELICOPTER R22 BETA 4084 A387BC 2006-10-13 N44392 FARMER DOUGLAS N BENSEN B80 04 A55970 2009-06-26 N46821 MANSFIELD SCORPION RW133 11309 A5BA0B 2012-08-22 N47088 TIFFT B-8M 1 A5C4AB 2012-08-23 N47198 ROSENBERGER BENSEN B-8M 1 A5C885 2012-08-23 N48334 LEBOEUF BENSEN B-8M 61433 A5F69C 2012-08-27 N53947 HARRIS B-8M 1 A6D4E0 2012-08-21 N57998 BONOMO B-8M 1 A7738C 2012-08-27 N91886 BRADLEY GREGORY ALLE RAF 2000 GTX H2-96-7-236 ACB7F2 2011- |

Some of these are really old. Russ Jansen was killed in a crash 15 or more years ago. If "Manning" is Dan Manning, he was an early Florida gyro pilot who intentionally gave up gyro flying -- and wrote up his reasons why in the PRA magazine -- in the mid-70's.
BTW, the "Riley" on the list isn't me. I went Part 103 in the 80's and surrendered N-88770, the number of my first gyro. I had already parted it out to raise college money!). |

I've been told that in the next few months the FAA had ask for new registrations from everyone. Anyone who is not sent in a new registration by a certain date, will be canceled. The database has not been updated in many years. This is something that should be done anyway.

There's been a rolling requirement for renewal of registration underway for a very long time now, with everybody eventually to get a notice over a three year period. They broke down the entire registration list into blocks depending on month in which it was last registered, and have been creating staggered expiration dates on that basis. Some of my aircraft have come due while others haven't yet.
I expect that plenty of additional Bensens will bite the registration dust before it is all over, because nobody knows a current address and/or they're sitting in a barn somewhere and haven't had air beneath the wheels in decades. Warning to those tempted to renew early -- if you send in the renewal early, say in March when it's not due until July, your new renewal date will be in March, and three years from now you'll have a March deadline instead of a July deadline. |

Every 3 years your N# must be renewed. I have both my Sparrow Hawk and the Parsons re-registered just in time before they lapsed..
My B8-M gyro N544SM was sold in 1993.. Only saw it once at Mentone years later.. But not since... Wonder what happened to it... |

Seems some of those reminders weren't getting to folks.

If the reminder isn't getting to you, it probably means that you are in violation of FAR 47.45, which reads as follows:
§ 47.45 Change of address. Within 30 days after any change in a registered owner's mailing address, the registered owner must notify the Registry in writing of the change of address. If a post office box or mailing drop is used for mailing purposes, the registered owner also must provide that owner's physical address or location. Upon acceptance, the Registry will issue, without charge, a revised Certificate of Aircraft Registration, AC Form 8050–3, reflecting the new mailing address. When a post office box or mailing drop is used for mailing purposes, and the registered owner's physical address or location changes, the registered owner must notify the Registry in writing of the new address or location within 30 days. If you have any doubt about it, you can always go to www.faa.gov, put in your N-number in the search block, and it will tell you the current expiration date of your registration (they all have them now). By the way, for those who weren't aware, you have the same 30 day notice requirement for your pilot certificate under FAR 61.60, and if you're not up to date on that one, your license is invalid. § 61.60 Change of address. The holder of a pilot, flight instructor, or ground instructor certificate who has made a change in permanent mailing address may not, after 30 days from that date, exercise the privileges of the certificate unless the holder has notified in writing the FAA, Airman Certification Branch, P.O. Box 25082, Oklahoma City, OK 73125, of the new permanent mailing address, or if the permanent mailing address includes a post office box number, then the holder's current residential address. Many people forget this, and just update when they go for their next medical certificate, but that can be way, way to late to be legal. If you're flying on Sport Pilot privileges and using a driver's license without a medical, the FAA won't get address updates. And updating the address for your pilot certificate (which is handled by the Airmen Certification branch) does NOT update the address for any aircraft you own (handled by the Aircraft Registry). They don't cross check for you. Not complying with these rules can also be enough of a technical violation that your insurance is void (yikes!). P.S. Just to be clear, "you" here means any randomly picked U.S. gyro owner, not you personally, Leigh. Last edited by WaspAir; 09-06-2012 at 05:31 PM. |

You may not have done John, but to 'fess up, in this case...it does. Good call.
When Stu moved the family down to Tampa from Orlando seems that the address change was not done, and I who should have know better, was over here and not thinking. The Hornet has been in the hanger since it expired waiting for the prerotator so I think we might have got lucky there. No excuse though. When this was posted I had an 'Oh ****' moment, then contacted him. He of course said no reminders, which of course there wern't... because the address was wrong. Working on it now. Luckily a bit more up to speed on the Bensen here having just renewed the Permit to Fly. Though flying out of Rissington is still on hold with a bureaucratic to and fro going on between departments of the RAF about clearance to operate from there. Who says life isn't fun.

I spoke to an FAA official recently regarding the "purge" and refresh of the registrations. They expect to lose nearly 1/3 of the USA fleet of record.
