Okie Derby Air Race Wouldn't it be great to see a gyro entered in this?
Open to All Certificated Pilots Male & Female August 19-20, 2005 Wiley Post Airport Oklahoma City, OK Secret Round Robin Course no more than 225sm Entry Fee $40.00 After August 15th $50.00 Impound Aircraft August 19, 2005 For Registration and Information, contactv Amy Padgett-McCue, AmyMcCue@fullnet.net or 405- 359-9774 The OKIE DERBY is the world's largest proficiency air rally. It is not only fun for pilots, but tests their piloting skills and their knowledge of the capabilities of the airplane they fly. This competition is open to all licensed pilots flying standard general aviation airplanes; each crew consists of a pilot and a navigator; the latter need not be a licensed pilot but must be at least age 16. Entrants set their own handicap on the entry form by listing the ground speed they intend to maintain over a cross country course. The course (not to exceed 225 statute miles) is not revealed until a mandatory pilots briefing the evening prior to the race. Fuel estimates to 0.1 gallon, based on length and direction of course legs and predicted winds aloft are turned in prior to starting the aircraft's engine for the race. Scores are determined by matching the actual performance in time and gasoline consumption against the ground speed and fuel estimates. Competitors enter from Texas, Kansas, Arkansas and Colorado as well as all over Oklahoma. Collegiate teams provide keen competition to both veteran and first time racers.
