Default North Georgia from the Air

I got out to Cartersville Airport early today before the rain rolled in for the rest of the weekend. I had a bad "kill switch" that kept me grounded for most of the morning so I decided to put a new water temp sender in after the old one was readiing "zero". After installing the new sender and switch I put on the helmet, connected the radio and away I went.

Some of you have commented on the large amount of trees here. Yeah but there are plenty of places to land too.

It will be raining here on Easter Sunday but it is a family day....

Have a Happy Easter!!!
and Fly Safe
Chris

Great pics. Do you have to stay a certain distance away from those "smoke stacks"?

I am not really sure... I do stay about 3-4 miles away. That is coal generating power plant.

Chris

Here is one that I have from a month ago. I have swaped the instruments and re-labeled the panel, soon it will have the N number on it.

Fly Safe,
Chris

Looks almost like mid georgia, but alot more houses and buildings. Less cows.
Yesterday I flew over the peach orchard, buzzed another local strip. flew around the fire observation tower, over the horse stables. I even set a new altitude record! 2200 ft AGL, Dog-gone I could see everything! But I felt like I wasn't even moving.

OK Ron, I will get pictures of the pod. I made the lettering. If you need some let me know... I know just the guy

Matt I was getting scared being up that high but I went there to get the pictures of the land around .

Scott, I too buzzed another grass field about 6 miles from my airport. I just don't understand... Those ultralight guys were not flying at all . I was up to about 2200 as well yesterday.

Fly Safe,
Chris

A few years back we had a FW UL fly over a cooling tower near here and caught such a strong thermal it, sadly, folded his wings up. I don't know any more details than that, but it did give me a newfound respect for those things.

I flew into one near my place years ago in my first ultralight, a Quicksilver MX sport. It was the wildest ride I have ever gone on and I don't doubt it that it could have folded someones wings up. I shot up over 2000 feet in the matter of about 4-5 seconds! Feel like I had absolutely no control of the plane while in that updraft either.

Default TFR on Power Planets

Of course, the new TFR restrictions prohibit such flying.

"...PILOTS ARE ADVISED TO AVOID THE AIRSPACE ABOVE, OR IN PROXIMITY TO, SITES SUCH AS NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS, POWER PLANTS, DAMS, REFINERIES, INDUSTRIAL COMPLEXES, MILITARY FACILITIES AND OTHER SIMILAR FACILITIES. " "...PILOTS WHO DO SO CAN EXPECT TO BE INTERVIEWED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL AT THEIR DESTINATION AIRPORT AND THE PILOT'S NAME MAY BE ADDED TO THE TRANSPORTATION SECURITY ADMINISTRATION (TSA) INCIDENT REPORTING SYSTEM."

Not that you'd want to anyway. I believe this recently became permament.

I think getting blasted out of the sky would be on the list of Hazards when flying too close to some of those areas.
