this is marvelous stuff!!! One thing that puzzles me is the dismal failure of the Fw 186, an autogyro which didn't seem to introduce any radical innovation, while the very innovative Flettner and Focke Wulf helicopters were such outstanding aircraft. Perhaps the engineers at Focke Wulf were ordered to screw up the 186....??? (Ok, just a wild guess).

One of the more interesting aspects is the near universal use of the NACA 230 series of cambered airfoils for rotors.

The double row spherical bearing connecting rotor hub to airframe permits the rotor hub to self-align with the tip plane axis, eliminating the need for flap and drag hinges.

In Wikipedia ~ Focke-Wulf_Fw_186 it says; ".... However only one prototype of the aircraft was constructed, and the project was abandoned when the RLM preferred the Fieseler Fi 156 Storch over the Fw 186."
