Default Jabiru Gyro

I got used to the updrafts and downdrafts when crossing the mountain peaks but the turbulence over the desert floor is violent in the afternoons. It's a tough place to fly but the views are spectacular.

Shopping list:
Star Bee - Bee Deal

how would you configure?
upgrade blades to ??? brand, ??? length
HKS turbo, MZ turbo, rotax 912 ???
A few people I know have tried the Jabiru here in Australia, They are good in a tractor but have bad cooling problems in a pusher. There was to much work and weight building shrouds and ducts to be bothered with it.

Jabiru officially discourages use of its engines in pushers.

I've been impressed with the performance of Thomas Fernandez's Rotax 582-powered Gyrobee here in Utah, but he's a guy of modest weight, and the machine weighs something like 310 pounds. If you need cupholders and heated seats, you'll need a 912.

Default hopped up 582?

I see a guy named rotax rick selling rotax's on barnstormers. Is there a reliable alternative to the 582 that gives a few more hp? It seems like throwing a 912 on a gyrobee would be overpowering it and not safe.

I also looked at the 912 powered gyro made in Oregon. It's a hot machine but $50k is out of my budget.

Tim,

If you posted your body weight, I missed it. I would say that if you weigh less than 200 lbs, a light weight Gyrobee with the turbocharged HKS 700T would give you more than enough power to fly out of your bowl and anywhere in the desert. Contact Carl Schneider for all the info you need. Carl has been flying with a HKS for many years and he upgraded to the 700T some time ago. Once you know your approximate gyro flying weight we can help you choose an optimal size rotor.

Mark - what was that remark about holding the North end...? You guys a waaay south!

Udi

p.s. If you talk to Carl, he will probably convince you to build a Carlenator - which is a nice spin of the Dominator.

carl lives just to the west of me in the mountains and has been to socorro to fly a couple of times. The
hks 700 turbo is one sweet engine, its preforms very well, looks good and sounds good. Carl takes off at about 7,000 to 8,000 ft density alt without any effort and climbs and preforms good. best regards.,eddie.....
