EJ22 Engine Mount...again

Will be ready 'shortly' to move the engine to a test stand and off the HarborFreight special. I'd rather fab at least some reusable parts for when it goes on the frame rather than a fully-dedicated test stand.

Any photos of EJ22 mounts would be suggested. I do have the Parham plans but would be nice to see some close-ups.

Question: most do not use the OEM soob mounts; Barry (or a variant) seems to be the preferred. WHY, too large? Since the PSRU is not complete will be needing to fab a boss on the bell housing plate to substitute.

Again photos of specifically the EJ mounting would be much appreciated

I'll send you pictures this weekend when I go back to the airport. I think the main reason people don't use the Subaru OEM mounts is that they are REALLY heavy. and they still don't get you to setup that is easy to attach to a gyro frame.

It sounds like we are about in the same spot on the EJ22 rebuild. I'll be closing up the block this weekend and maybe get the heads back on.

I'm in the middle of an EJ22 setup. I'm using a Marvin Currie planetary redrive so the rear motor mounts aren't off the PSRU like most are. I'm also using the Parham plans. I'm using the 45 degree angled rear motor mount and I made an adaptor to make it fit the Parham plans. I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow and post them.

I also need some help. I'm using fuel injection and although I have the service manual for a 92' Subaru it's not clear how the water lines run through the bypass air control valve. It's located just below the throttle position sensor. If anyone could take pictures of theirs or explain how its plumbed I would appreciate it.

Facing the rear of the engine and assuming you haven't rotated the air plenum:
There is a hose barb on the right side of the water crossover tube. Coolant from the engine is available at that barb and is connected via hose to the 'close' side of the bypass valve. The output of the bypass valve is connected with a short piece of hose to the air inlet body. Output from the air inlet body is connected the coolant return on the far left of the engine on the water pump bypass / heater supply. As far as I can tell if you have rotated the air intake the basic flow can be reversed for convenience if necessary (there are no on-way valves in this flow).

Chris, here's the pictures of the adapter I made for the EJ22 rear motor mount. I hope you can tell what I did from the pictures, sometimes it's hard to figure out what was done from pictures.

This is strictly southern engineering and just food for thought. Before I dare try to fly it I will secure the gyro and run it wide open to see how the adapter piece holds. I'm also sending you a PM.

Chris, I thought I should make one other comment about the pictures. The bolt going up through the adapter at an angle is inside two steel tubes. The tubes were cut at an angle so the bolt could be tightened up. The pictures just look like a bolt going up at an angle and doesn't make any sense.
