Hi Steve

This is - or will be - Sascha Sandis Arrowcopter. Your picture shows a mock up for exhibitions.
Besides the factory prototypes (Chris may correct me here) there is no Arrowcopter (legally) flying yet.
You can see here that the HB-YSS is not in the Swiss aircraft register, which was the source of the above mentioned list of gyroplanes.

And Chris: You're correct, my HB-YPS is a DF-02, designed by Michael Obermaier.

Hi Greeny,

I was in dialogue with BAZL ( Swiss aircraft registry office ) a few weeks ago - HB-YSS is currently a reservation with registration application currently in progress - it will appear soon.

The prestigious JANES GROUP quote HB-YSS as being the 2nd production Arrow Copter. I have no personal knowledge about this gyro but I take note of aviation comments from the JANES GROUP.

On the WWW I found a German language PDF talking about Arrow Copter HB-YSS - I am unable to translate this PDF - it is dated February 2012 - maybe it offers some insight ?

Everyone is free to make a reservation for a call sign anytime.
The Arrowcopter will not get airborne in Switzerland before the Austrian, German and/or British (BCAR T) approuval is over.
Gyros are experimental only here, the organisation in charge is called EAS. The BAZL is not directly involved in the process. Officially, they do not know nor care how far advanced an experimental building project is.

It's an article on Sascha Sandis homepage. The insight you get is basically that he is willing to sell you an Arrowcopter kit for ready cash ..

I agree Kai.
This video confirms it. Flying through the Alps and between clouds is heavenly.
If you watch it better full screen.

Hi

Looks like the original concept prototype did indeed end up in the Czech Rep - now registered as OK-PWA1 ( OK-PWA01 ) - this would *appear* to be the former OE-VXF which was displayed at Friedrichshafen AERO2009 on the ArrowCopter trade stand see photo below

http://tinyurl.com/cx4vkz5

video of it flying on youtube as Czech OK-PWA1

Autogyro gyrocopter Gyro PC 01 - YouTube

Not of course the definitive production Arrowcopter but interesting to know this prototype still flies - great shape in the sky.

Cheers

A quick look through the latest new "N" US registrations over the past week finds two new gyros being registered - both new Euro gyro imports

N785DD Magni M16

N4686S Calidus

plus about half a dozen old timers being cancelled ( Bensen B8, RAF 2000, CK Gyroplane, "2 Place Gyrocopter" etc etc)

Cheers

The funny thing is that there is only Magni gyroplanes approved as 51% kit by the FAA on their official list. The rest are doing it one by one. I am sure they are all 51% AB .... yeah right. One complain from some pissed off pilot and the DAR doing most of these gets his certificate pulled in a hurry. Seen that happen a couple of times.

Now that is surprising. I thought Switzerland does not allow gyros at all. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Kai.

Yes, that DF02 is experimental. Oh, I forgot, yes, experimental is possible.

Latest UK register changes shows one new gyro added recently

G-CHLD MTOsport - registered 14.6.12

Currently there are 41 MTOsports registered in the UK

in addition there are currently 45 MT-03 registered in the UK

Almost 90 between them in total - not bad for a small island.

As a comparison the FAA register currently shows 5 MTOsport in the US ( couldn't find any MT-03 ).

Cheers
