Default Modified RAF 2000 Build

I suppose its time to start a thread on our new project.
We (Me and a friend named Mark) have purchased enough parts to build a RAF. It was jw wright's parts that were for sale. The raf blades look like new, I am guessing they are as they still have stickers on them. It has a 6'' drop keel design with air shock suspention. It has a carb 2.2l engine, hstab and most everything to start building.

The reason the title is "Modified" is because I want to make some major changes to it. Here are a few of them that come to mind right now. Keep in mind these are only ideas and I am open for opinions and ideas from you guys!

My plan is to move the cab 4'' to 6'' ahead of the mast. This new space will house a fuel tank. Probably aluminum and up to 33 gals. By raising the tank it should lower the thrust line. I'll have to run some weight and balance numbers though to make sure I'll still be within limits. I won't be scared to fly a 90 mile cross country for fear of running out of fuel. I will need to make a new control assy that is 6'' longer.

The seating in the RAFs are the worst I have ever seen in anything that is designed for human occupancy. My sears lawn mower is more comfortable.
The outside tank opens up the cab for some comfy seats and lots more room. I would like to lower them for more head room and make them adjustable. It would also allow for storage under the seat.
Engine.
I have my eye on a ej20TT (Twin Turbo) engine that I might use for the build. I would upgrade it to a single turbo and simple systems ECM. Should be upwards of 275 hp and could be detuned for reliable, low rpm , QUIET cruise flight. That would be a pleasant change.

A high output prerotator. 250-300 rpm with a beefed up mast for almost vertical takeoffs.

Possibly a IVO inflight adjustable prop.

After 300+hrs of flight in my RAF, these are are some things that would make flying more enjoyable.
Lets hear what you think!
Brad

Sounds like you've got a great plan. I'll surely be watching this build.

Sounds like an interesting build. Will you have to move the engine aft to compensate on moving the cabin forward?

Tim,
I am not sure.. If I use the bigger engine it should add some weight aft, moving the fuel next to the mast should help and then most all rafs fly in the 3rd mast position. So if I use the first position, I might just be ok..

I have been throwing around ideas to make the fuel tank sit close (hug) the cab real nice and tight.
I am thinking about making a mold of the cab and using hydroforming methods to get an exact fit...
Anyone have experience with hydro forming?
Thanks
Brad
