Here is that link.
I don't know why Walt cut it all down, but it was 10 minutes long. He said he is going to post a longer one. This footage of the dozer was taken while he was standing 1/2 mile away from the UAV. tractor play.avi - YouTube |

I am new here and not a normal poster so I will tread lightly here.
I am in the UAS business, there are tens of thousands of unmanned systems in the military and the count is going higher. That is why people like Dennis are moving forward on this. They are becoming very sophisticated with TCAS and PCAS along with ADS B transponders becoming normal. Screen views with daylight screens are everyday as are the goggle use for the pilot. Most, but not to all systems in the US are kept in the view range, which is a mile or so and 400 feet of altitude above takeoff. Some of the systems are big enough to bring a man home, way better than the heli’s used in nam. Many systems are used in class B airspace now with no problems.. I find this super cool. Thanks guys.. john |

Hi Jon, I will tell if you promise not to pick on me, :-)
We design and manufacture small (most of them) helicopter UAS. they are sold only to government entities. Hiway patrol, SWAT, Police, ect. These units are photo op units that save life’s by allowing accident investigation without normal survey. these units are flown by RC although not flying the heli. You are only moving the gps spot around. They are also flown by ground station and can be handed back and forth. by the way, i intend to join you guys in the air this year, want a high altitude change from my fixed wing. john |

Thanks Jon, I believe you and the others can teach me much about Gyros, I hope to gleam as much as i can before jumping in. I live high altitude and need short field along with enclosed. Like everybody else wants right.. :-)

Single or duel?
We have a 912 powered single that can takeoff in 50 feet at sea level. We also have a duel side by side that does it in a couple hundred. I assume you've seen our website. Seek out the closest CFI and get an intro flight.

Been interested in this for a while now, but not shure what type of aircraft I should buy. What would be good for a beginner ?

Pretty much whatever you can fly in R/C. The systems available will fit almost ANY R/C platform.
I guess fixed wing would be best for a beginner.

Think it could be an advantage to non-gyro types at an airshow if they were able to get a "first person view"? Strap a camera and a video xmtr to your mast, coupled to a rcvr on the ground at one of the tents and give everybody a taste of being aloft in a gyro. Next best thing to actually flying in a gyro.

The first person view is recorded.....alot of it.
Here's what is needed: 3-D projector, 3-D glasses, and a parabolic screen. This would give the person a VERY good perspective with peripheral vision. This is my goal for scale flying with a live feed. Next will be realistic controls (instead of a box) Jon

If you can't get killed doing it then why bother ?

LMAO Gary!!! I think that is one of the unspoken reasons some of us are drawn to ultralights, gyros and aviation in general.
Many years ago I had a girlfriend who wasn't all that keen on flying. On several occasions I talked her into a picnic. We'd fly from Arlington, Texas to Lake Whitney and have a picnic in the shade of one of the hangars. When we'd get back to Arlington I'd mutter under my breath, "Ah! Cheated death once again!". She invariably would smack me on the back of the head. As for flying an R/C with a "first person camera", I suppose you could mistakenly ram ones self in the head with it going full throttle.

I find this sort of technology really cool, but like some others here I can't see it being better than actually sitting in the cockpit, smelling the 100LL and feeling the accelerations.
Plus, I can't imagine flying without getting some motion sickness. |
