Didn't do any flying today, but had a good day anyway.
Recently joined a group of motorcyclists called the Patriot Guard Riders. About forty of us provided escort of the Las Cruces element of the NM National Guard welcome home parade. The City Fathers (Democrats) would only allow the welcome home as a six block parade at 10:00am on Sunday morning.I remember the jeers and cat-calls when we came home from Viet Nam, and couldn't let the bas###ds do the same to these guys returning home from Iraq. It really felt good to shake their hands and welcome them home even though I'd never known any of them before they served over there. ![]() You don't have to ride to be a part of the PGR, but you bikers should look into it in your area. http://www.patriotguard.org/ Then this afternoon on an almost aviation thing. . . The daughter and I went to a presentation by the Mesilla Valley Concert Band. It's a concert band of old burned out wana-be musicians and music teachers (actually pretty damn good). Half of their program was music about flying/flight. Of special interest was a piece by a friend of mine Bob Diven, "The Experimental Aviator's March For Band And Power Tools". The original was premiered at Oshkosh. Bob has a half finished Neuport-17 in the EAA hangar where I keep the DesertBee. Of course I've suggested it would be quick and easy to substitute a rotor for the hershey-bar wings and get it flying sooner.
