Hello Ron

I can see a nice place where you can build a propellor shop.
Pretty hard to find good carvers like you though. I could make it to Mentone this year, it's not a promise but....

It is a lot longer than 250', looks like 1000 plus. Makes me wish I still had my D3. To make ours long enough to be practical, we need to clear at least 600' of woods 100' wide or so.

Instead of roughing it in try smoothing it out.

Hi,
Looks great. So the neighbors will be more supportive, rumor you're putting in a one hole fareway and put a hole flag near one end and leave some golf balls around.
Great job!!

Ron , Try lowering the blade and backing up.... alow the blade to float on the surface of the dirt and it will smothe it out alot...
it takes years of experience to make it flat going foward, but backing up does it slick and easy ! corse that depends on the cat too, but it should help !
good luck ! pack the heck out of it with the cat while you have it ! or the first rain it will become a bog !
...

I'll bet the airstrip was just an excuse to rent the dozer

Default Yes it's smoother now

Well since I took those last pics,,,,I have back bladed it, disced it and raked it,,,,and it has rained for two days very slow and very thorough,,,so,,,,now I will take more pics and see if yall like the results,,,,,
The lenght now is aprox 900 ft,,,,and there is a wooded section that would add another 250 ft,,,,that I am trying to get permission to use,,,but if that falls thorugh,,,,I have the 900 ft,,,,and the ground in front is about 800 ft more for aborted takeoffs,,,,,,,I as well have a " pre rotator" area before the runway that is 250 ft that I did not show on the pics,,,,,I had a 1/4 mile strip in Penna,,,,that after it was finished and all the grass finally grew in ,,,we moved to Alabama,,,,and it has been almost 12 years untill I finally got to build this airstrip,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I had a dozer back in PA for about 5 years and " cut my teath" on it( it was a John Deere 440) that helped me in my learning curve,,,,so that when I got my hands on the Hydro Cat full joystick machine( 1997 model) I could use it to my total advantage in operating it properly( I put 44 hours On it start to finish)
I couldn't be any happier it was a total joy to excavate and now a total joy to do the grooming to make it smooth and enjoy it.
I tried to show a three section Pan of the strip the first three pics are it!
The rain came at a perfect time It took me 6 & 1/2 days ( 44 hours) and as soon as I finished Discing and Raking the rain came,,,,couldn't have been a more perfect timming,,,how fortunate I was!!! and thankfull,,,,

Hay Ron !
While your at it add some low voltage lights on eather side of the strip, that have a dusk to dawn sensor on them....
nows the time to run the wires under the surface so you don't bother the grass ! ...
it looks great now ! lots smother ! though Personally I would pack the soil very hard with the cat to get it solid enough to withstand serious rain and not turn into a bog... ofcorse adding grass will make it absorb rain like a spunge so to each his own I guess ! ...

I have plans on makeing a air strip when I move down to my Mom's ranch, though I doubt I will get 800 ft out of it I'll get enough room one way or another ! HEHEHEHE
... seriously doubt it will be as purdy as your air strip though
.... hehehehe man you're realy going to enjoy that ! have fun!

Bob.....
