BillyGyro came through for me with a used replacement engine (pull) for the bulldozer to replace the one on which I broke the crankshaft last year. I want to go through it (rings, bearings, gaskets, seals, oil pump, water pump, belts, timing belt rollers, etc.) and am wondering if it makes sense to stick with genuine Subaru parts from a dealer or if there are other options.
Saving money is good, but I'm really after high quality, rather than (or in a perfect world, in addition to) low price. For example, I'd rather buy Moog suspension parts than original equipment for an automobile in most cases. I'm especially interested in an oil pump designed for high RPM (racing) as opposed to the stock model. Most of the engine work I've done has been on US-made engines, so any unusual Subaru gotchas that are well known might be useful to comment about as I've probably not heard them. Erm...yeah, I already figured out that the bolts are all that silly metric stuff. So...Sources? Recommendations? Gotchas?

Jon...
I would recommend this outfit: http://www.ccrengines.com/ They can do the whole job for you, or simply ask them to supply the best parts for your engine type. "Fiveboy" had his 2.5 rebuilt there, and it simply purrrr's..! We had specified racing quality parts: lower end bearings, heavy duty head gasket's, valve springs, and most importantly...an over sized (...if I remember correctly..10mm) racing oil pump. Had the cam's redone by Delta, and kept the engine stock in it's output (165H.P.) so we would not have hassles with the ECU (..some say ECM). The Fuel air ratio gauge shows it performing perfectly, burning on average LESS than 5 Gph. consistently. To say that "Fiveboy" is pleased is an understatement...!! M-M. |
