"Best" is a subjective term. What are your needs? (Open frame, enclosure pod, cost, ease of construction...etc?) You need to narrow it down to your requirements. The Little Wing 2-place is a nice choice, but if you don't want to learn the fine art of welding 4130 it wouldn't fit your needs. Rotor Flight Dynamics makes a tandem Dominator, but if you want side-by-side seating and an enclosure, that wouldn't work for you. SparrowHawk makes an amazing side-by-side enclosed ship, but the cost may be prohibitive. So you see, there is no "best" ship... only the one that best suits your criteria.

For what it's worth.

Then "Cross Country", "Stability" and "Reliability" are your criteria.

Barnett makes an awsome machine called the J4B2. You can buy it direct from the factory with the airframe already assembled. It uses a certified Continental engine, and has a great safety record over many years.

The SparrowHawk is also quickly becoming a popular choice for cross country flying. Paul Bruty also makes a nice ship from what I hear called the Firebird, and RAF ships can be modified for improved safety and stability as Stan Foster can attest.

SportCopter is also developing their new tandem ship in Oregon, USA, which by all accounts is fantastic in stability. I'm sure there's many more I'm leaving out, but you'll undoubtedly receive many replies to this post from other, more "seasoned" pilots and builders... By the way, have you noticed that "seasoned" people tend to have at least "salt & pepper" hair? It just hit me.

Respectfully,
Brian Jackson

That gyro is no longer being sold.

Best 2 place in my opinion would be a SparrowHawk.

That was a good one Rotopix .N503R Thank you for the info. The Sparrow Hawk is the RAF gyro but with a high tail. What you guys think about the RAF?

Joe,

The Sparrowhawk is an entirley new airframe. It is definitely not an RAF. It is much roomier than an RAF, and, of course, very stable.

Joe,
I have sat in both the Sparrowhawk and the RAF 2000. For my body type, the difference is like night and day. I strongly recommend you sit in both before purchasing, to see which is more comfortable to you.

Joe: I would consider the RAF2000 a very good cross country machine. Its hauled my butt almost 10000 miles since March 1st year. If it wasnt comfortable to fly ...I sure wouldnt have logged 140 actual flight hours in it.

Just getting out of the wind is part of it...then having the comfort of heat has ruined me.

Joe: I dont have their video...but if you want video...I could send you some by e-mail without sound.

Seroiously Joe..there are a lot of nice two place gyros out their. Its all in what you want. I like flying in a warm cabin..and I dont have to run my heater fan in mine unless its in the thirties. Just the hot water circulating through my hoses and heater core up under my dash keeps me warm as toast. Especially after I put some foam tape on my door seals that were blowing some outside air in.

I fly and fly and fly this darn thing and the more I fly it...the more I like it.
