Default RAF Mast Magic Donut

I had a new RAF owner call me and ask me where he can get the RAF magic donut. He is going to try RAF, but I'm wondering if we have an alternate source for those things. I think Harry had one made of rubber for him. How did that work?

Why, Eben? Are you marketing them now? If so, I think all of us RAF owners would like to know, plus any other items you might be marketing for the RAF machines.

Thanks very much,

Yep, I had several made for me of gum rubber. The kind soul even gave me the mold he made and the instructions on how to bake some more...if I could find the rubber. It's not available locally.

I have since loaned the mold and instructions to Rudy. I don't know if Rudy has had any luck in locating the rubber?!

I have had the rubber installed for over a year now and have gone thru one hot and humid Florida summer and it looks and feels like brand new. This Florida weather should be the ultimate test for this donut. It's creator has said it will outlast me by a hundred years.

I gave one of the donuts to Rudy, so, if he's reading this maybe he can give us a report?!

The RAF supplied donut turned to gooey mush in this local heat and humidity. Inspect your installation yearly and if that bolt hole gets misshapen or off center...replace the donut.

Cheers

Here’s what you want:

http://www.patchrubber.com/tire_repair/18202_sec.html

Tell Rudy to wipe the inside of that mold with a very thin layer of Dow-Corning grease and he’ll have less trouble getting the rubber part out.

If the DC grease gets into folds, the adjacent parts won’t bond together.

While speaking of rubber bushings, what about the rubber lead/lag "bushing" on the Sport Copter hub bar and blade assemblies. Do these need periodic replacement too? And if so, what's a suggested replacement period for them?

Cheers,
Ed

Harry,
I've called around to several places to find the rubber without any luck.
On the internet I found some from India but have to buy a lot.
I'll keep trying, one tire repair place in Baton Rouge said they could sell me some, just need the time to go there.

I'm using the bushing Mr. Chuck made for Mr. Harry that he gave me & it works great.

Rudy;

Check out the site Chuck B. gave in Post #9. Also check the instr, sheet as to what width he suggested to use. I can't recall right now.

Dang I can't believe no one commented on the Homer and the donut!
So the magic donut absorbs the rotor vibration? fore and aft.
Have you checked on 2 part polyurethane, or would that be too stiff?
