Default A-002

Does anyone know more about this gyro? It's apparently about to become a series production gyro, 3-seats, fully enclosed, manufactured by the Irkut Company in Russia.

That is one VERY SERIOUS ROTOR HEAD! I don't know how they apply cyclic. I guess it has something to do with the thingie ma Jiggies that are gripping the side of that awsom hub bar.
Chuck B. likes the stiff rotor bar, maybe he will comment on the head. If they make the rest of the stuff on their web site it might be real. I don't know why they would use a Soob engine when the rest of the equpment looks like serious aircraft parts.
The video was ok.
Do you think there is enough tail surface to off set the cabin in windy conditions?

From the description it seems that this gyro is JTO capable. They have already produced 5 pre-series gyros and are apparently gearing up for series production.

A sister company of my company is looking into buying one and will go to Irkutsk to look at the production and test fly one.

I wonder how much it'll sell for....

Now that's what I call a gyro! Heli style rotor head and enclosed cabin n'all. Looking at the video though it looks a bit twitchy and I too wonder about the directional stability with such small tail/rudder surfaces bit like the RAF only worse. Still Su are serious aircraft manufacturers and I find it difficult to believe they havent looked at it.

If you search for "gyroplane" and "A-002" you'll find a lot of theoretical work done on stability and rotor properties. I also found a document from the UK CAA granting a certification for test flight. It is slated to be a fully certified aircraft, so one can rely on stability issues being fully flight tested and looked into.

Here is another informative link: http://avia.russian.ee/helicopters_eng/irkut.php
