Is Norm ok? The SPOT shows him back traking to the middle of nowhere.

Thanks, good news, I didnot know Norm had a blog

I was also concerned when I saw the back-track. I wondered if he had problems. Looked like he was wandering around in the middle of nowhere!
Glad he found safe haven from the storm.
I'm glad to learn about the blog. That 'splains things.;)

Time change; 4:01am Central - 12:01pm Riyadh, Saudi Arabia 8hrs diff
Took off about 9:00am this morning

Had a wry smile at the unfortunate detour Norman had to make in Egypt. Flying in that part of the world can result in some pretty inflexible calls by ATC.

In extreme cases, one has to simply declare an emergency and do what you have to, because doing what they are asking will run you out of fuel. I have had that one before.

Those desert sandstorms can be very bad, come up very quickly and viz goes to zero. The rain storms and hail in that area during certain times of the year pretty severe.

He is making fantastic progress and doing really well. Way to go.

Thanks Arnie, that really puts it into perspective. Pretty good chunk of it so far.

How about that route from Riyadh to Daho! Must have added at least 100 miles to just that one leg!

Norman has landed at Abu Dhabi International Airport in the United Arab Emirates at 14.54. Another water crossing 3.5 hrs.

Spot Startup pt 29 11:44am, pt 36 2:04pm - pt 50 5:34pm

No hanging about then. He went through the ME like a dose of salts. We will have to call him Stormin' Normen.

Does any one know about Normen's plan for Pakistan.

Would love to meet him and his gyro and offer our famous hospitality.

He is to fly to Karachi Pakistan today or tomorrow. He might just refuel
and proceed to Bombay India.

I did write to him and offered any assistance but guess he will be alright.

Rehan.

Looks like he's already in Pakistan

Looks like he just landed at Gwandar.
I don't think he will make Karachi today. That's another 280 -290 miles and it's late there.
A grand adventure!:yo:

This is no sightseeing tour and I would say Norman has already set some records for long distance gyro flight as well as altering some concepts about overwater flight in gyros.

As I see it he is a true pioneer and we are seeing gyro history in the making.

Thank You Mike and Pete.

Yes he is in Pakistan. Better keep it a low profile visit.

There seems to be a hush up to avoid too much visitors and exposure
to unwanted elements.

But I'm still pursuing to meet him. We love good will and charity.

Good luck to Norman and wish him a pleasant trip to Pakistan.

Rehan

Here is a map showing how much ground and water Norman has covered in his first month..

He is leaving Burma today and should be in Thailand today or tomorrow.
