Growing up without guns

I like it too.
For long time the sheep got trounced by the wolves, but they have learned to protect themselves.
After a while they noticed the wolves changing, different tactics, bigger canines, tiger claws.
They doped the guard dog and murdered way too many sheep. So the sheep complained to the sheperd.
The sheperd came around and created some new fences and alarms and such, So the sheep where safe again. A little confined but only some sheep are claustrophobic.
And then it happened, the wolves bribed the sheperd, got all the alarm figured out and the schedules of every sheep inside the fort.
That is when the carnage really began, sheep bougth weapons and start shooting everything that moved . . .and the carnage went on.
It is kinda waves you know . . .they come and go!

"He who gives up Freedom for security deserves neither."

Yes Tim think I read it on the Forum too a while back, some Army guy called Grossman who apparently used it in a speech that went something like,

“We all have the capacity for violence. Need it as a survival mechanism. It's controlled by the frontal lobe, reason and empathy. Triggered by upbringing, training, physical condition, circumstances. Most people in society are sheep; gentle creatures with little or no capacity for violence. Hurt each other only by accident or extreme provocation. Then wolves. Men with a ready capacity for violence, addicted to it with no empathy for others. They feed on sheep. Evil men, capable of evil deeds, aggressive sociopaths. Your Sheepdog now. He has the capacity for violence, but empathizes with the group. Gets his buzz from protecting the flock, confronting wolves. Soldiers, policemen. Men who walk the walls and guard others.
We’re all are good at something. With some it’s art, science, medicine, serving behind a counter; others controlled aggression, but used to protect kith and kin. Kin who in some cases, though they accept fires happen and want fire extinguishers, fire sprinklers, fire alarms and firemen, just won't accept wars happen, are outraged at the idea of armed men that guard but kill. Sheep don’t like sheepdogs. Look too much like wolves with sharp fangs. Have this capacity for violence that frightens them.
Now sheepdogs don't harm sheep, any that did are put down right quick. But they disturb the sheep, constantly reminding em they’re wolves around. They’d prefer he pull his sharp pointy teeth, paint himself white, and go, “Baa.”… until a wolf shows up of course. Then the whole danged lot try to hide behind one lonely goddamn sheepdog.”
“No biggie being a sheepdog; just what some choose to do. Funny critters. Always sniffing round the perimeter, checking the breeze, barking at things that hunt in the night. Yearn for a righteous battle… leastwise the young 'uns yearn for a righteous battle; old one’s a tad smarter, but still head for action when needed. Think differently too.
Sheep pretend wolves never come, but sheepdog’s live for the day. To be able to make a difference using their one real advantage, the skills and ability to survive and thrive in an environment that would destroy ninety-eight percent of the group they live with.
In nature sheep, are born as sheep, same as sheepdogs and wolves. Don’t have a choice. But men can choose. Make conscious moral decisions. Wolves sheep or sheepdogs.

I think I was born to be a sheepdog .
It's just the way I am and I've always been that way .
It's not like I sat down and thought about it and made a conscious and moral decision .
Don't get me wrong , i'm not alway's moral , and I'm an a$$hole in oh so many other way's .
But when it come's down too it I'm a sheepdog .
Too a falt .

If you ever watch sheep in a herd on the move, if one jumps up at certain spot, they will all jump up at the same spot.

What I know about sheep isn't much. I worked a few days as a shearer in Wyoming after the Army; about 1969; I'll never do that again.

There is an old understanding in Wyoming, it's simple: "Sheep are so stupid, they stand around looking for a reason to die."

" Sheep are so stupid , they stand around looking for a reason to die , "
Now thats funny .
Hell I know people like that .

When I was shot (23 y/o) I stood up, walked towards the tug thinking I was going to beat the crap out of him. He had two guns, the 22 he shot with and a 38.
He was scared shutless, maybe because I did not have a great look in my eyes or because of the blood dripping from my chin.
He than put the 38 on his belt and reached in his pocket to give me back the car keys, then they all fled.
This was 1974. Today, they rob you with no resitence and than shoot you just for fun.
I will try to find a shoot out on youtube ,where the policeman traded a few with the bad guy with a hostage in between. Ridiculously funny.

Last nigh pretty close to my home, 3 kids tried to rob a Medical Clinic, got away and were chased by police, one dead, one in jail and one on the run. All near 20 year of age more or less.
I think we stood our ground long enough, didn´t we? Agree to close?

Interesting web sites, first one very politically motivated, leaves me in doubt as to the validity of their statics, example over here they count anyone under the age of 21 as a child in the "Kids killed by guns" numbers and the huge majority of those are actually in the 18+ age group, gangs doing stuff like you had happen, gang wars, MS 13, other crimes drug related usually.

It is sad most of these kids come from low income areas, are indoctrinated into crime at a early age by street gangs, know any crimes they commit are wiped from their record at age 18 so the 14-17 year olds get bold are prompted to by their piers, and do real stupid stuff, theft, armed robbery, drugs. Most plan of not living past 25 and on going out in some gang related activity...
I know you have seen it over there, kids with little education, no ambition to better them self, no hope for the future, no moral upbringing from their parents, in a click of others just like them. The only difference is that it is far more prevalent over there than it is here...

Second web site has the US middle ish not too bad for a country with over 200 million guns in the hands of private citizens....

" Sheep are so stupid , they stand around looking for a reason to die , "Now thats funny .
Hell I know people like that .

Ain't that the truth, the only animal that is dumber is a Turkey, it has been said that if they were to look up during a heavy rain storm they would drown....

Anyway you see it we are on top of violence.
Not easy to get in between those pro and against guns, the biased groups.
But pretty much it is like this, the more guns, the more shootings.
You can´t tell a brazilian kid from an American kid if the background does not give them up, they dress alike and behave alike, thankd to movies and rap music.

You gotta stop believing everything you read.

Both sites are socialist, one world sites, and their data is skewed out of all proportion. I happen to know for a fact that New Zealand's crime rate is several times the rate in America; this from New Zealand's own crime statistics. Yet your link has it being peaceful. Even the earlier link you referred to, Nation something-or-other, is skewed as well. When you do the averages according to their own published statistics, America's crime rate is reported almost double on their site than what they actually are.

Socialists have an agenda to save the World from the bogey-man, and this to satisfy their own lust for control.

That fact means I won't have to explain why I own and carry guns to anyone.
PEOPLE ASK WHY I CARRY A GUN. LET ME TELL YOU.
Why I Carry a Gun:
I don't carry a gun to kill people.
I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don't carry a gun to scare people.
I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.

I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid.
I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I'm evil.
I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I hate the government.
I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government,
and because I understand what the government can do to its citizens.

I don't carry a gun because I'm angry.
I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating
myself for failing to be prepared.

I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone.
I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed,
and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy.
I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a cowboy.

I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man.
I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the
ones they love.

I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate.
I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

I don't carry a gun because I love it.
I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

Police Protection is an oxymoron. Free citizens must protect themselves.
Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the
crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.

Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to
take an ass whoopin'.

....author unknown (but obviously brilliant)

You can´t read with prejudice eyes.
The mere mention of any king of control that you don´t agree with makes you jump.
Have your guns, don´t blame anything for it, in special laws made long ago when the time was different.
I do love guns, stoped carrying long ago, no laws needed, it was my decision after some time and experience.
Guns are machines that inflict great harm or death, that is what they are for.
Also they serve the purpose of disuasion (?) some guns that I sold (yeah I used to do it) don´t serve that intent and the owners were advised to draw and shoot immediatly.
Some or the weapons I sold to the Sao Paulo DEA got taken away from them, they were not allowed and military police don´t like the Civilian counterpart, they even got in to it last year badly.
If you say it is the last resort than I will understand, we have failed educating our children and are paying for it.
As a means of defense, it is weak and prevention will most of the times make them useless.
The stray bullet problem is huge and thanks to the ban law is on the downsizing.
All the rest is macho bravado cultural ingrained B.S.
This is my opinion. Your´s dont make me angry, but sad.
Now we could change the subject and talk about the weapons we like or dislike.
I personally think, shooting JFK with that piece of crap was insulting! :D
Get a grip man!

Some creatures drop their tails when stressed.

You seem to have dropped your......front tail?

Would you say Heron, that carrying a stun gun or alternative would be more appropriate?

As far as a weapon I like, I recently assembled a .50 black powder pistol. I love it. Only 3 minutes between shots!

I am all for gun control............the kind of control that results in shooting 10X's! Before I got back into rotorcraft in 2002, I was totally involved with shooting muzzleloaders in state and national level competition. A group of gun enthusiasts are just like rotorcraft enthusiasts. We want to shoot and fly safe, and we want to do so with minimal intervention. I feel blessed to have deep experiences with both groups. Any anti-gun talk is just a waste of breath if headed towards my ears. I will never force my opinion towards gun ownership anymore than I will take blabber why I shouldnt own them. Stan

Stan, the controled gun activitie is a sport and still goes on in all countries that have stiffer laws or total ban for civilians.
Master Roda, it is not about me, it is about more educated opinions.
No news on the radical front, lots of news on the more liveral fields.
Keep it! Just assume what you are and do.
So, I think it is time to ask permition to leave the debate. Can I?
Heron

Heron- You just made my point....thank-you. Here in the states, after I come home from a shooting competition. I am free to go practice my right to own and shoot my firearms. Its a wonderful right that I dont take lightly. The ones that dont have that right, well...thats just too bad. Also, the ones that have that right but choose not to have firearms, thats just as much their choosing as it is mine. The main thing is we have a choice. Stan
