Trike Globetrotter - 100,000 miles around the world
My German student starts his 100,000 mile journey in his DTA Voyageur II bush trike.
He just finished his FAA private pilot license in a trike and though I think he could use some more training, I wish him well and hope his 100,000 miles go along safely Go to: vimeo.com/47859467 Trike Globetrotter Trailer English Version on Vimeo |
Impressive video. Kinda nuts to do this in an open DTA trike. A podded trike would be more approriate for such a journey. I wish him luck in this one of a kind adventure. I cannot fathom the amount of preparation that goes into something like this. Im sure we all wish him a fullfilling and safe journey.... however, A gyro would indeed have been way more appropriate. An MTO, or other proven gyros fly themselves and easily withstands more extreme weather..

He picked a good machine. The DTA Trikes have been successfully used for numerous world class journeys. Though I'm a fan of gyroplanes, we don't have any that have made it around the world without numerous mechanical problems and extensive delays. Many that have tried had to give up. Even making a flight to all 48 states has been a challenge. I also question the wisdom of such an expedition with a fresh pilots license. 999 days and 100,000 miles...pretty ambitious. Certainly doable if he treats it like eating an elephant. I wish him good luck and prosperity along the way.

Hi everybody,
Yes I was like 6 years ago the first SPL student Abid trained. And he is a great instructor and now friend of mine! Since than I logged about 350h on different trikes. I just needed to get my PPL for WSC before our trip to be able to cross the border to Mexico. We would be happy if you follow up our tour! Andreas did consider a gyroplane at one point but in the end he prefers a wing on top of him as he states. I like gyroplanes as well but as you say they have not been able to do such a journey yet. Hope we get there. |
