On the windswept plains of Wyoming...
Usually at gas station stops, people ask what kind of flying machine is on the trailer. Also they ask the usual questions such as how high can they fly, how fast, how much, do I need a license, etc. At one place in Wyoming, two guys came up to me, but asked only one question rather emphatically: WHERE CAN I GET ONE?
I asked where they lived. When they replied they lived in Salt Lake, I told them of the Rotors Over The Rockies event that was held at the Brigham City, Utah airport just over a month earlier in June. They didn't know there were any gyros around Utah. I gave them the web site address for the Utah Rotorcraft Association, and said there were both gyros and helicopters flying at ROTR, as well as the rest of the year, and that they meet monthly around the Salt Lake valley. I also gave them the usual info regarding home built helicopters and gyro kits that they can buy new, as well as the pricing for such, and gave them the range of prices of used ones for sale around the country. After getting back on the road toward, I realized I forgot to mention that Utah has one of the rare gyro CFI's with access to a two place gyroplane, in Mike Burton, at the Spanish Fork, Utah airport. They wrote down my email address, so I expect they'll be in contact, and I'll be sure to tell them about training in Utah! |
You should have stopped
Kevin,
Wish you would have made plans to stop in NW Nebraska and we could have flown around the area together, (I am flying my Vortex) and you could have stayed in my Cabin. If you were in Wyoming, you had to have passed close to me. (probably on I90) Next time. Oh....if you don't eat steak and drink beer, forget it. |
By chance, did you happen to drive through Sheridan Wy?
|
Did the I-80 thing through southern section of both Nebraska and Wyoming. Two very l-o-n-g states, much like Texas and California. I reiterated my loathing for long road trips.

Wow,how nice history thanks Kevin
