Dollar a gallon gasoline...

Hope the Arab gulf region stays peaceful.

Any adventure there and the prices will rise to US$150.

Still cannot see why agression is necessary.

Yep, as long as we keep printing money to pay our national debt the US dollar will just keep being less each and every month and everything will cost more dollars just as fuel does today.
We need to reduce spending and balance our budget if we ever wish inflation to stop.

@Rehan
I wish the aggression would stop in all nations. Live and let live!!
However if Iran closes the Strait of Hormuz because of the rest of worlds fuel embargo imposed on Iran then there will be an aggressive answer to Iran's aggression of closing the Straits.
Hopefully it is just saber rattling and they will do nothing?
They want an Atom bomb and the leader as often stated Israel/ Jews should be wipe off the map. Sounds to me like he means it and would be willing to do it to. Do you think they would use it?

It's a difficult situation.

Do you wait until they use the A-bomb killing millions of people?

Or do you try and stop them from having a weapon of mass destruction and grantee the they won't use it on anyone?

It seems a no win situation:
If the world does nothing and Iran used an A-bomb we can not bring the people back to life and the rest of the world will blame us for not stopping them from ever acquiring the A-bomb in the 1st place.
If the US used aggression to stop them from building it then we will be blamed for stopping something that hasn't happen yet.

The US and the rest of the world has to decide which is the lessor evil?

Build the Keystone pipeline from North Dakota to the refineries in the south and reduce the price of gasoline...

Very simple. They can bypass Obama as he only makes decision when the pipeline crosses international lines, not state lines. Lowering the price in some peoples minds means decreasing the incentive for alternative energy. My opinion, get the economy going.

Yep, Larry that is a no Brianer! However, why it is not on a fast track takes us too far into politics to be allowed to expressed on this forum.

IIRC: We do not buy oil from Iran. That would be China and other eastern countries so only those countries can help force Iran to do the right thing and not kill millions.

Unfortunately they do not seem to care about anyone but themselves and money!

If they are not threaten or don't want the land for themselves they just do NOT CARE if the Jews or any other peoples are being killed, invaded, or whatever as along as they are safe they just stir the pot and condemn any other country that is tying to actually help stop the mass murder.

The united nations was suppose to fix all of these problems. They including China pass resolutions not to buy or sell to Iran yet China and the other nations keep buying and selling so the words are useless.

If all the countries would just follow the UN resolutions Iran would not be a problem, now or in the future.

Geez, I dunno John, looks to me like the Israelis are looking after themselves ok - the Palestinians appear to be the ones being invaded, have you ever checked out the settler and barrier maps?

Perhaps check out Wikipedia as a more benign version of what is happening: see the various maps, and remember that Isreali settlers are all allowed to carry weapons, and no Palestinian is (includng the West Bank police!) and that the IDF is sworn to protect all Israeli citizens, even if it is settlers chasing a Palestinian farmer off his own land.

Hi Mark

What Palestinian State? The 2 or 3 different Arab countries gobbled it up in 1949 and never mentioned creating a Palestinian State until after they lost it in the 1967 war? Now they want to give it to them. From 1949-67 when all of Judea-Samaria [West Bank & Jerusalem] and Gaza ... were 100% under Arab [Jordanian & Egyptian] control, no effort was EVER made to create a second Palestinian State for the Arabs living there.

Surely you do not expect Israel to now provide these same Arabs with their own country when their fellow Arabs failed to do so! Why was no request ever made upon King Hussein of Jordan by the Arabs living on the West Bank when he occupied it? And isn't it curious how Arafat and his PLO (formed in 1964) discovered their "ancient" identity and a need for "self-determination" and "human dignity" on this very same West Bank ONLY AFTER Israel regained this territory (three years later in 1967) following Jordan's attempt to destroy Israel! Is it logical that the PLO was formed in 1964 to regain the lands they would lose three years later in 1967? This sort of logic makes sense only to those who have not learned that the PLO was formed to DESTROY Israel before they lost the land.. And that is STILL their goal! A cosmetic name change from PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization) to PA (Palestinian Authority) does not change the stripes on THIS tiger!

The PLO realized in 1964 that the Arabs were never going to give them any land of their own. So the only non-Arab land was Israel in order to take it they had to wipe the Jews off the map so the PLO was born.

The Jews were willing to live in peace with them as neighbors way back in 1923-1967 and still are today!!!!

The actual history:
The British had taken it from the Ottoman Empire not the Palestinians and in 1923, the British gave it back dividing the "Palestine" portion of the Ottoman Empire into two administrative districts. Jews would be permitted only west of the Jordan river and the Arab Palestinian nation called Trans-Jordan (meaning "across the Jordan River") east of the Jordan River was given to Emir Abdullah (from Hejaz, now Saudi Arabia) who was not even an Arab-"Palestinian!" This portion of Palestine was renamed Trans-Jordan. Trans-Jordan would again be renamed "Jordan" in 1946.

In other words, the eastern 3/4 of Palestine would be renamed TWICE, in effect, erasing all connection to the name "Palestine!" However, the bottom line is that the Palestinian Arabs had THEIR "Arab Palestinian" homeland because Palestinians mainly lived there. The remaining 25% of Palestine (now WEST of the Jordan River) was to be the Jewish Palestinian homeland. However, sharing was not part of the Arab psychological makeup then nor now.

It really started on May 14, 1948 when the "Palestinian Jews" finally declared their own State of Israel on only the land the UN had given them authority over and became "Israelis." On the next day, seven neighboring Arab armies... Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Yemen... invaded Israel. Most of the Arabs living within the boundaries of the newly declared "ISRAEL" were encouraged to leave by the invading Arab armies to facilitate the slaughter of the Jews and were promised to be given all Jewish property after the victorious Arab armies won the war. The truth is that 70% of the Arab Palestinians who left in 1948 – perhaps 300,000 to 400,000 of them – never saw an Israeli soldier! They did not flee because they feared Jewish thugs, but because of a rational and reasonable calculus: the Jews will be exterminated; we will get out of the way while that messy and dangerous business goes forward, and we will return afterwards to reclaim our homes, and to inherit those nice Jewish properties as well. They guessed wrong; and the Arab Palestinians are still tortured by the residual shame of their flight. Their shame is so great because in their eyes running from Jews was like running from women. So much for the blatant lie about Jews throwing out all the [Palestinian] Arabs!
The remaining 30% either saw for themselves that these Jews would fight and die for their new nation and decided to pack up and leave or were driven off the land as a normal consequence of war.

When the 19 month war ended, Israel survived! Those Arabs who did not flee became today's Israeli-Arab citizens. Those who fled became the seeds of the first wave of "Palestinian Arab refugees."
The Arab propagandists and apologists almost never mentioned that in 1948, Arab armies launched a war against a one-day-old Israel. Instead he focused on the main consequence of that war: the creation of Arab refugees, stating that Israel "war of genocide" expelled 800,000 of them. This not only disagrees with history but with UN estimates of a bit over 400,000 refugees but also ignores the fact that most of the Arabs/Palestinians were encouraged to leave by the Arab World itself!

The end result of the 1948-49 Israeli War of Independence was the creation of a Jewish State slightly larger than that which was proposed by the 1947 United Nations Resolution 181.
What remained of that almost-created second Arab Palestinian State was gobbled up by Egypt (occupying the Gaza Strip) and by Trans-Jordan (occupying Judea-Samaria (a.k.a. the "West Bank" of the Jordan River) and Jerusalem. In the next year (1950) Trans-Jordan formally merged this West Bank territory into itself and granted all those "Palestinian" Arabs living there Jordanian citizenship. Since Trans-Jordan was then no longer confined to one side of the Jordan River, it renamed itself simply "Jordan." In the final analysis, the Arabs of Palestine ended up with nearly 85% of the original territory of Palestine... called Jordan but in reality their ARAB "Palestinian state! But that was still not 100% and thus the conflict between Arab and Jew for "Palestine" would continue through four more wars and continuous Arab terrorist attacks upon the Israeli citizenry. It continues to this very day.

In the war of 1967 the Jews took the land away from Jordan, Egypt, and Syria not Palestine.

Love it!! See you B.Ds 2012:)

Quite correct John. I just have a small note to add, About the word "Palestine" this word can be found in the Bible during the reign of the first kings of Isriel it refers to the "Philistines."
From "Phillistia". This term was first used by either Greece, or Rome (my memory fails me here) in order to deny any Jewish heritage to the land. There are no real "Phillistines" left now as they were assimilated around 500 BC into the local population at large. Phillistia was never hardly more than a small speck of land along the southwestern coast of the land. And the people themselves were Invaders from the northern regions above Greece.
In other words, the whole idea of "Palestine" is bogus.
By the way, I'm not Jewish.

When I was a kid and needed air for my bicycle tires, I remember that the gas station by my house had gasoline for .24 cents and kerosene for .08 cents. Air was still free. So were the smiles from the blokes who worked there........

Yup. We pushed my empty tin can front wheel drive Austin American into the gas station and filled it with less than $2.00. 8 gallons..whoop whoop.

John & company, thanks for the writeup.

…….What Palestinian State? ........ The Arabs took/ occupied it from the Palestinians, not the Jews, and never tried to give it back until they lost it in the 6 day war of 1967!

Thanks for the ‘history’ lesson John. No need to mention a ‘state’ of any sort. Arabs lived there, they were, strangely enough, known as Palestinian Arabs (perhaps something to do with the name of the place) ….

History, and all of our versions of it, is indeed a wonderful thing:

He who controls the present, controls the past. He who controls the past, controls the future.

And, there were no attacks?:

“….. the commission recommended creating a partitioned state with separate territories for the Jews and the Arabs in Palestine. This "two state solution" was accepted …. by the UN General Assembly in November 1947 by 33 votes to 13 with 10 abstentions. ….. In the months prior to the end of the Mandate the Haganah launched a number of attacks in which they gained control over all the territory allocated by the UN to the Jewish State, creating a large number of refugees and capturing the towns of Tiberius, Haifa, Safad, Beisan and Jaffa. On 14 May 1948, the day the Mandate officially ended and the day before the bulk of the remaining British troops departed, Israel declared its independence and sovereignty, though without specifying borders.”

Note the convenience of the last sentence……the intentions would appear to have been clear from the very start, while the West pretends there were actually options and deals to discuss.

You may see why some in the world may perceive this as some sort of injustice, and become a bit, ah….., frustrated.

Good point.

Then how about a UN map linked by Americans:

http://unispal.un.org/UNISPAL.NSF/0/96FD41BB37E40F8685256B98006EC72A

(These guys are Americans, albeit ones with some sense of right and wrong): http://www.ifamericaknew.org/about_us/whoweare.html

The more I travel, the more I realize we only ever get the view of one side of the discussion in the media, especially from our governments. But unfortunately the average citizen is simply happy to latch onto the first message he hears, without questioning who is trying to sell him what.

Up here (Canada) we pay over $1 per litre for fuel. A litre is aproximately one American quart so that computes to over $4 per gallon US. About 43% of our price is added tax , designated for highways projects , but the tax dollars are mostly diverted to pay for our "free" health care.

We export a huge amount of oil resources to the USA and have more reserves than Saudi Arabia. I hope the new pipeline to the US gets built.

A package of 25 canadian cigarettes sells for about $13 ..... 70% of which is tax to pay for our "free" health care. The two countries in the world with the highest rates of cigarette smokers are Hungary and Japan. The two countries in the world with the lowest rates of lung cancer are .... Hungary and Japan.

The highest increases in lung cancer in Canada are 51 year old women who have never smoked , or been exposed to second hand smoke. Cruel and unfair , but true statistics nonetheless.

A small pepperoni pizza at Boston Pizza is $12.99 . I just ate one :) Junk pizzas are $4.99. Lower cut steaks $3 per pound , T-Bones and Ribeye steaks $8 to $10 per pound.

Unskilled labour can earn about $11 to $14 per hour , but paycheck deductions take about 20%

Skilled labour and higher income professionals earn $50k to $90k and pay much higher rates of income tax. I think our highest rate is 54% . Most of it pays for our "free" health care.

.

We are not complaining , Canada has a good economy , real estate has not lost value , we have a recent good government and a Prime Minister who is an economist , he avoids political grandstanding and tries to do best for the country. The political left berates him every step of the way but he ignores them. He counts on the intelligence of the voters who recognize good results.

Lots to be thankful for , and I am.
