Eddie, The mast bushings I purchased from you is working great. Do you have any more copies of the RAF manual you have on CD. I could sure use one. Also, I would like to convert my standard ignition, carbureted Subaru 2.2 to the fuel injected. Do you know someone that could help me with that endeavor. Thanks,
    Greg T

Since several RAF owners have added a turbo (or are considering doing so), your trail-blazing experience in a comprehensive thread would be very helpful. Very important to describe, for example, is your dealing with your FSDO and what kind of Phase 1 and Phase 2 fly-offs were required. Adding 50% more power certainly requires FAA approval because T/O and flight characteristics are significantly affected, yet some owners may not understand that. I'm sure that you wouldn't want them to fly their turbo RAFs in violation.

Explaining your landing gear relocation back 5" would also be instructive. What's estimated engine life?

And an off public forum Thank you back for your public thank you. I didn't want to salt an open wound. I have PM'd JJ at length about checking out other brands and CFIs. I just don't think anyone has "run the numbers" for him on the cost advantage to learn in his own aircraft. And you pointed out the much better way to purchase an already built gyro at his age. Thank you again.
I am interested in your Sport Copter Blades, pleas send me an email to [email protected] to discuss terms. I can't get the private message to work. Thank you, Vance
I have a RAF/sparrow hawk under construction. The movement of gear back even an inch is an improvement for ground handling.
    Hello Eddie,
Thanks for the response. Do you have any photos of how and where you have done this gear mod?

    Thanks
    Alan
    Hello Eddie,
    I hope all is well.
I am interested in the moving of the mains back 5 inches. Also, what other mods have you done to your RAF? I am in the process of putting a Boyer Horz on and the Parham Landing gear giving another 10" to the width of the mains.
    Thanks again
    Alan
    Eddie,
I haven't given up on my dream of installing a turbo on my sparrowhawk but really can't visualize how all the piping would fit . I have very little room under the oil pan. Would you possibly have some pics of your turbo setup you would be willing to share? I will soon be replacing my ecu with the sds em5 so the next step will be the turbo or supercharger.
    Thanks

    Glenn
Thank you for your help. I will contact Mr. Patterson today. If you don't mind me asking... I'm 6'2" but thin at 160lbs. Will an RAF, in your opinion, be leg roomy enough for a guy like me and are they roomy enough to be comfortable with a passenger as well? Thank you for your help sir.
Brent, no dyno just math figures, you add 7% hp for every lb of boost I only added 6 lbs of boost. the turbo on my engine doesn't start making a lot of boost until about 3,000
rpm or more, perhaps a different turbo could develop more boost at a lower rpm.

If I were to start over I probably would use a Yamaha 4 cylinder engine and turbo charge it,there would be a little less HP and a lot less weight, however the RAF handles
the extra weight of the subaru just fine do its not really a problem.
    Thanks for your inquiry.

    best regards,eddie.....
Eddie I guess you had a dyno done saying your soob makes 230HP, what did it make at 2800 to 3000 rpm? it might be a good direct drive engine and be a lot lighter.
    Eddie,

Again thank you. Your thought are really spot on. Our DA can push 10,000' on a warm day, which is a good day to stay home. But like you even a cool day can be high. We often go to Big Bear Lake Airport for breakfast and it's located at 7,800 MSL.

leg room is a problem I can't stretch as much as I would like to, and the cabin gets small with two aboard,I fly with the doors on, with the doors off cabin room with two is a little better.however for the money the RAF is a really good buy. at your height the headroom may also be a bit of a problem it will depend on the thickness of the seat padding.

    best regards,eddie.....
