The cancer was diagnosed in January, 2008 and I was told it was untreatable, fast acting, and always fatel. They said I had less than 2 months. That was in Albuquque. We came home to Gallup not in too good of a mood. Our neihboor, a cancer suvivor, asked if we had been to the Gallup Cancer treatment Centerfor a second opinion. I did'nt even know we had a Cancer Treatment Center. I went up there and they accepted me as a patient. They started chemotherpy and I'm still here. My outlook is that when God is through with me here, HE will call me home. I'm looking for the reason HE has kept me here. Meanwhile, God and chemo are keeping me here. thank you all for your prayers and careing. my e-mail is gary.carlisle@Yahoo>com.

Hello everyone,

Robert S. Hoover, a pioneer in the aerial application of the VW engine and in designing and building homebuilt airplanes, passed away on Friday, 13 August, 2010.

He had been valiantly fighting an aggressive form of cancer.

He had a terrific blog on vw airplane engines, using your brain and making your own decisions, and building airplanes from scratch.

A veritable human tome of information, but my favoite part was his incredibly dry wit and sense of humor. He was also famously irascible at times, especially with people that couldn't think for themselves.

You need to read the stories he wrote about his adventures bringing "Grendel" (a VW Bus) back home in the 80s to really appreciate the type of man that he was.

Peruse a couple pages of his blog to see what kind of a writer, intellect, and pioneer that he was.

http://bobhooversblog.blogspot.com/

"Flying, homebuilt airplanes, working with wood, riveted aluminum, welded steel tubing, fabric, dope and common sense. Gunsmithing, amateur radio, astronomy and auto mechanics at the practical level. Roaming the west in an old VW bus. Prospecting, ghost towns and abandoned air fields. Cooking, fishing, camping and raising kids."

I never personally met him, but through correspondence and the yahoo users group for vw powered airplanes, I think I got to know him pretty well.

RIP, Bob. Thank you for all your help, and my deepest condolences to your wife and family.

I wanted to bring it to everyone's attention. Erik Bengtsson, "PeroxidePropuls" here on the forum, was seriously injured in an industrial accident last month, and his factory and all stock destroyed in the ensuing fire. The announcement is now gone from his website, but at the time, said this:

On July 22, 2010 Peroxide Propulsion suffered a terrible accident at our production facilities in Gunnilse, Sweden. Founder and co-owner, Erik Bengtsson, was working at the plant with a routine procedure when hot hydrogen peroxide steam exploded in his face. The plant subsequently burned to the ground. All stock of propellant grade hydrogen peroxide was destroyed in the fire.

Erik is currently hospitalized and listed as stable. After being temporarily blinded his vision is returning. Peroxide Propulsion, however, will not continue operations. We ask for your understanding in this matter, and wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our customers these past years...

The website now has a note simply announcing that operations will not resume. Erik, we thank you for your contributions and fascinating work, and wish you a speedy recovery!
