FAA estimates are that around 45,000 registered aircraft have bad addresses. Aircraft owners are required to notify any change of address within thirty days. I know we messed up on that one, it is now in hand.

Having been caught out and reminded of this, do be aware that new re-registration requirements will be going into effect this year and FAA notifications will be on their way to the last address they have in the FAA Registry.

Updates can be made directly with the FAA and you're data checked online on their Website.

Hi Everyone,

As some of you already know, I have a variety of aviation interest and been involved in many forms of aviation throughout my life. Along with rotorcraft, I have an interest and involvement with gliding and soaring. Soaring in a motorless aircraft and staying aloft using thermals, up drafts and one's own piloting skills is a high that only another can experience to relate.

Every Labor Day weekend at the Mountain Valley Glider Port (L94) in Tehachapi, California is the annual Experimental Soaring Association Western Workshop. Simply, it is a symposium of various aviation and soaring related subjects. Many who attend are or have been senior engineers and aerodynamicists in the forefront of aerodynamic research and design who also have an interest in soaring. Many fascinating aeronautical subjects are covered. This year was no exception.

A recurrent speaker is a gentleman named Mike Sandlin. Sandlin is a long time hang glider pilot who over the years has designed a number of simple, light, and inexpensive, ridged wing gliders loosely based on the common primary glider design of the 1920s & 30 but using modern aluminum construction. Even though these gliders have low aspect ratio wings, and fly in the 30 - 40 mph range, the designs are able to soar in weak thermals and ridge soar very effectively. The heaviest of designs weighs no more than 150 LB and thus are Ultralights. Two of the best features of Sandlin's designs are the aircraft can be disassembled and assembled very easily by one person and be carried on top of a car or truck, and has provided very detailed informational drawings (not plans) on his website on how he constructed his gliders. Sandlin categorizes his designs as AIRCHAIRS. The various glider designs are called the BUG (Basic Ultralight Glider), the GOAT, and the PIG (Primary Instruction Glider). There is a Yahoo Airchair Discussion Group, and of course, Sandlin has his own website including various great photos and videos of his Airchairs in flight over the California Desert, mountains, and ridge soaring over the beach at Torrey Pines in La Jolla (pronounced La Hoy Ya), San Diego County. I recommend everyone who is reading this to take a look and be pleasantly surprised.

This is the latest update with photos taken in Tehachapi over Labor Day Weekend.

http://m-sandlin.info/update/update.htm

Here's the link to Sandlin's main page. The one picture of note is with Sandlin flying his BUG high over El Mirage (wearing sandals with socks). Mike told me that he was about 8500 ft MSL (5500 AGL) when that picture was taken. The runway just above his feet is the El Mirage Airport owned by the Breiglib Family and leased to General Atomics for Predator UAV training and testing (a former WW2 auxiliary training field, then later a great glider port and soaring site where in the past, national soaring contests had been held). The El Mirage Lake Bed is just above the airport with "Gyroplane Cove" just outside the photo to the upper left.

Don't forget to take a look at the video section.

http://m-sandlin.info/

Below, are several pictures I took while there for the workshop
Do any of you experienced guys have tips on training your fingers? Tape? Balm? Macho mojo?

I've been practicing about an hour after work everyday, and it hurts to type. I'm not complaining, but there has to be something to help. Pretty soon I won't be able to play :)

Thanks for anything
I love the Butterfly Gyros but would prefer the gas tank not also be the seat. If anyone has made a modification like this and has pics, I'd like to see them.

I plan on (hopefully) to get Chris Burgess to teach me how to fly one. Money is tight right now but dang, I want one.
I have alot of experience with wood and because of that realize there isn't anything better than the right tool for a job. And lots of times quality counts. So my question is about riveting guns. Got suggestions on brands and where to look? Wire crimpers too. My list gets longer the more I look. Bucking bars, rivet guage, go/no go guage necessary? Deburring tool. An a good source for AN hardware and clecos. That's probably a long enough list to start. Any obligers? HELP!!! and other suggestions.:help:
