NOt enough rotors! More gyros please?
Met some guys there from this Forum: HOgnose, Greg Spicola, Jim Mayfield.
I think we can interlace BD and SF somehow, brains still in awe but will catch on later.
Whatta show!!!! worth every penny and minute.
Monarch shined and from now on gyros will be a stronger presence in any fly-in.
Next year looks promissing for both events.
Apalling seen people crossing the active runway, lack of respect with gyros.
Hey were is Larry G? I have something to sell now, want to help?
I got BETTER, still working on CHEAPER that will bring us to MORE . . .
Gyrowave has a contract for South America distribution of Butterfly products, that is a good beginning, don't you think?
Visits from Ora Cook, Chuck B., Dick DeGraw and I probably missed someone, too many people around after those drops. I had to catch a few jaw in the grass . . .hehehehehehe!
Lets see what the press will report. HIstory been made in Gyrodoom.
see you

It was definitely a gas meeting Heron and putting a name with a face... or vice versa. His English is way better than my Portugues. (Learnt from Brasilian, er, "art" films...)

Great things coming from Butterfly LLC to hear Heron tell it (I will not steal his thunder, and it beats me what was on and what was off the record!) The videos of the Monarch landing do not do it justice. I was on my way to Choppertown and a volunteer told me, "oh no! I just saw a helicopter crash!" Asked to elaborate, he said," The guy just stopped and plummeted like a rock!"

I looked at my watch and said, "Damn. I'm late for Larry's demo at 1100... dude, it's not a helicopter, and it didn't crash...."

Choppertown is located way far away from the action at S-n-F and the traffic is relatively low -- it's beyond the ultralights, the big-twin parking area, and all the camping. There were five kit helicopters exhibited (Mr. Bird of Safari told me six, counting Mosquito, whom I did not personally see). The most significant gyro display was AAI's. RAF was in the main area, and they were flying from the same demo field AAI was using (Plant City?). For those that haven't been to the big shows, most manufacturers do their demo flights away from the show and its hectic operations (and periodic airshow-driven runway closures).

I used to think that RAF did not display in the rotor area because their target market is more gyro novices than rotorcraft cognoscenti. I'm not sure, after Safari's experience. For the first time they displayed their kit helicopter in the main area, as well as both displaying and flying it in Choppertown, and they got MUCH more interest on the mainside. In fact, punters asked if the chopper was new (they have been going to SnF for about nine years, IIRC). No one can fault RAF's marketing savvy, at least until their difficulty in fighting the stability battle, or to put it another way they ain't called Rotary Air Force Marketing for nothing. I believe that in displaying in the main kit aircraft area they are on to something.

Safari has the best of both worlds with displays in both mainside and Choppertown. (aka the rotary-wing ghetto).

In helicopters, the best deal wasn't any kit. It was a zero-timed Hiller TH-23 for US $89,900, and they had a demo machine with about 200 hours on it going for $10k less. It ALSO was displayed only in the main area. The beauty of this is, unlike a Rotorway Exec or CHR Safari, it's a type-certified aircraft and can be used for hire (i.e. in a flight school. I suppose you could even put it on a 135 certificate). And it comes out cheaper to operate than a Robbie. There are only two life limited items on the rotorcraft and the life limit on the expensive one is 8600 hours. Yeah the engine needs overhaul but it's a Franklin six... $8k.

Finally, Superior came out with a type-certified version of their XP360 engine and the Vantage 360 is also type-certified in a helicopter version. Target is OEM (spelled Robinson).

cheers

Jose, I thought you were going to send me some pics or video of my crazy flying in my Ultralight? was nice meeting you too. One of my best friends - and still a good friend now - as I was just out of high school and for several years afterwards was a Puerto Rican guy named Hiram. He had a BIG family and I made friends with all of them. Real good people who would do anything for you, and also put on partys that have yet to be matched. Good looking PR women too. I dated two of Hirams sisters - he wasn't too happy about that! - and all I can say is DAM that was some good you know what!

See ya

And the test results for the Golden Butterfly will be available and it will be revealed.
Larry does not like to vent info before solid results!
It was nice meeting you Kevin, how is your leg doing? Your Butterfly (I guess you are going that way) will save you from those kind of accidents.
You are right about Choppertown been a ghetto, no respect there.
Next year we are going to have a ball on that area, big tent, brazilian girls on little string bikinis, samba and barbecue, nobody sleeps in that joint!!!
Heheheheheh, am I dreaming or what?
It was depressing getting there, a ghost town. It got better wit the rumors about the "crashing copter" and we had many visitors.
Ron Awad: I see you have some "sultan blood" left on you . . .talk about beautyful PR women, they are gorgeous . . .
In counting the giros that possible can attend next years SNF and BD I believe with a little work we can have 20 machines there and 5 are two seaters. (rides galore and new members for Sunstate and maybe arrrrrggghh for the PRA.) got to go wash my mouth now . . .(my fingers that is)
see ya :)
