Hi guys, I have 48 hours on my RAF now; 2.5 FI. I have the stock muffler from RAF. The last few flights, it started sounding a bit louder. Last night it sounded like a Mack truck crossed with a Gatling gun. I expect there are " baffles " inside the muffler that I have offended in some manner. Is this the useful life expectancy of a RAF muffler ? Regardless, it appears I need to replace it with something a bit better. I also expect there is a difference between the 2.2 carbureted & my 2.5 FI in exhaust system requirements. I hear some good things about Super Trap. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks Tom T. That's about as long as it lasts for a lot of people. I installed 2, 19" Trapps on mine and never had a problem with them for over 400 hours. Maybe Groen will sell you a pair of headers. I don't know what they'd charge. I had my headers custom made in San Diego, and then Groen bought them from the same guy for the S-H. http://www.customaircraft.com/ is who made them. Maybe give them a call and ask how much they'd sell them to you for. Mention my name if you have to in case they hesitate to sell them other than through S-H. I wouldn't think so, because they were originally made for me and I paid for all the development costs. You can find the Trapps on the Web at discounted prices. Just take the baffling out before you mount them. It'll crisp up, fall down and block the plates. Usually using all the disks gives the best performance.

I bought my headers from custom aircraft and they were $595.00. I purchased the mufflers from Groen Brothers which were $110.00, much cheaper that I could find the Trapps.( They are not SuperTrapps, seem to be a copy made in China.) I think!

$595!!!! Cripes. I paid for all the design and developmental work. You'd think the price would have come down after all the sets he sold to Groen. Aviation....bah.

Thanks guys, I will look at custom aircraft ( 595.00 ) and www.supertrapps.com/. Ken, which supertrap did you get ? There are a whole lot of choices and none seem to be for our use? I'm also considering sawing off the existing headers ?! Maybe I can fit the supertrapps to them . Tom T.

I don't remember if I had the 17 or 19 inchers. I recall that the header diameter was 2 inches. It seems they've really gone up in price. I recall paying around 120-something each. Maybe those are the "Suggested Retail" prices. I'd search around.

A little cheaper here. I believe this is where I bought mine. The next size up was 24" in length, so I'm pretty sure this was the one.....er.....two.
