Wow it's gonna be a hot one today...over 100 degrees with high humiditiy !
Any way we got the exhaust finished. It sounds great & only a small reduction in max rpm's over the short straight pipes.
Yesterday we also ran the pipe with the entire core removed from the Trapp. Throaty but too loud !
Then ran it with the core but no "packing" material in the core.
I think it might be a bit louder but that is the way we are going to keep it. So I won't have to worry about the stuff burning up & blocking up the discs.
BTW we have all the discs installed . We need to safety the core & neverseize the bolts. Hopefully this will last for a long time !!!
Rejetting the carb went well. The Edelbrok Air/fuel monitor showed that we were lean through all the circuits.
We increased the idle jets by one size & increased the main jets by 2 sizes.
The moniter proved the changes...... it showed perfect all through the throttle band & sound great too !
Now it is time to order a few new bolts that we need & safety wire everything & reinstall Air box & get it back to the airpot for further flight tests.

Nice!
I'll bet it sounds cool!
When do you think you will be taking it to the airport?
Are you going to Mentone?

Thanks guys, I am pleased with the results.
Should be getting my repaired tach/hr meter back from Westach today. That is out of my 447, so I want to get that machine back in the air. Then when this machine is all buttoned up , it will be going to the airport.
Probably in 2 weeks. We just decided to head for the shore in the old motorhome next week. Indian River Inlet campground for a day or two, then to Ocean City MD for the boardwalk , then to Assateague Island for a night or two. Then the trip clincher........
While having my RC heli test flown & straightened out on Sun. , we found out about this RC show in Delaware...so we will be stopping there on our way home next Sat...... Helis over Delaware. Check out their website
www.delawarerc.org/hod.htm
Lums pond state park, should be a fun return trip. I think I am gonna stock up on fuel today.

Chris
What type of heli do you have.???
I have just replaced the fuel tank on my Hirobo eagle freya SST I couldn't develope any pressure because of a crack in the tank. Do you use 30 percent?
I also do combat FW.

I fly a T-rex 450, and am just starting to learn 3d with it. Also fly model planes, mostly electrics

I have several electrics but most of my larger helis are Century 3d pro 32, a kyosho 60, and two hirobo a 32 and 90. I use the electrics during the winter to keep up my fingers in order to fly the larger ones. The T-rex is a really nice electric. I have a a MX 400, All of the Century electric. The humminbird
HB CP, HB Pro All with brushless motors. I have two Blade CP to play with also. These are the cheaper one so I don't cry when I crash one.

Hello Chris,
Your exhaust has some very nice features. I particularly like the joint just ahead of the muffler and making it a two into one seems like a good idea.
I have found with a rubber-mounted engine and an exhaust with a heavy muffler some distance form the engine the exhaust mounting can be problematic. When the engine moves on the mounts the exhaust must keep up and the muffler moves a considerable distance because of the lever. I can see that you have done several things to mitigate this challenge and it may be enough. The muffler support bracket looks a little weak to me. Remember the muffler is exposed to movement in all directions and it seems to be restrained in only one plane. Please run the engine at all power levels and rpms on the ground and watch for resonance. Losing the muffler in flight could be dangerous, so a little extra effort and time here may have value.
Thank you, Vance

Thanks Rick!
Vance , thanks for your thoughts. I will be watching the exhaust closely. That support is chromoly 4130 & it's main purpose is to keep the Supertrapp from rotating down from gravity & vibration.
So far so good , But I will be watching & doing alot of testing yet.
Thom , the only RC heli I have is my first.....It is a Hirobo Shuttle Challenge.
For me it has been a CHALLENGE ! I just need more stick time. Now that my friend got the tail vibration taken care of maybe I will try to fly it a little more !!
I'm not sure what % fuel,......Heli fuel ? I was told that my Enya engine won't hold up long & that I should replace it with an OS. Any thoughts?
Here is a pic of me starting up my heli.... & asking Randy to please not crash it !

Chris
I have a shuttle with a os32 and I use a 30 percent nitro fuel. The Enya will last just as long as the OS if you have it rich enough for cooling. I have a Skybolt Biplane also with a OS 90. I do like the Hirobo but they are very sensitive on the controls.
I hope he didn't crash it. They hoover really good. My Century and Kyosho bothe Hoover like a rock steady. After all of the adjustments were done. Unfortunately I had to teach myself how to fly Helis. We don't have anyone around here to teach R/C. Am a member of AMA and there is a chapter here.
The RAF that I am building is just a larger model to build. Ha

That's funny you say that, because I said it the other day....Building an RC chopper is like building a miniature Gyro, lots of nuts & bolts !

Thom & Stan ,Thanks buddies !
My electrical boss just got a good size job near my airport....($$$).
This is good news for me !
I don't even know if we're gonna make ROC this year.
I am not comfy with the trailer I have for hauling & I don't have much money.
I am looking at enclosed trailers now.
Sport Pilot rating takes precidence right now.
I am not sure if we will ever get to make the 2500 mile trek to BD's again !
But if she handles the weight we will meet up somewhere , I am sure !
