I am installing a Grand Rapids EIS on John's dominator, I looked at the instructions etc, but it looks like there is about 12 wires that I won't be using. Is this correct?
I maen that's like 2 lbs of wire I can get rid of! anyone else install one of these?

Sounds about right!

Be sure and label the wires as you cut them off and leave sufficient stub to connect to in case you add something later. I added a fuel pressure sensor and an outside air probe after flying for awhile.
I had the same situation when I installed mine. Left enough of the unused wires to be able to use them in the future if needed.
I think all EIS's are wired for the most complex engine/avionics setup out there. Using one harness to fit all uses is cheaper and easier to manage for EIS. Just a little bit of a pain for the end user.

Way back in my production days...pre-retirement...spec's required a percentage of the total connector contacts to be *pigtails*; which were 12" of appropriate gage wire that would be available for future engineering cicuitry additions, which would be made by splicing onto the pigtails.
With vendor components, eg, relays, switches. valves etc. some wires not presently used would be cut to pigtail length and ID'd as such and thus would be available if additional circuits were later made by engineering.
It would be prudent to retain a pigtail length of unused circuits, for possible future use.
Cheers :)

Thanks Guys, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something!:)
I will leave a decent length pigtail on the harness, but seeing how it is a 2 place dominator, So if I have 12 wires, and cut 9 feet off that's 108 feet of wire!
More weight savings!
