Several of us on the Chat thought that a potted plant (as opposed to cut flowers that die) might be appropriate for Alan Coates' funeral. The link above is for an FTD plant that can be delivered. I don't know how this works, but I'm sure between us we can find a way for people to chip in a few bucks to pay the bill.
One item of note is how the card is worded. Since this is from the entire Rotary Forum, who dictates the wording of the card? Just something to think about. The integrity of the folks here gives me great confidence that any and all gestures will be done with class and taste.
This thread is open for suggestions.

This is the link to all the selections. If anyone has another suggestion, post it here and we can all vote on it.

If someone with paypal could get the flowers we then could paypal our share to them. I only saw one potted plant out of the selections.

I could credit card the plant if no one else wants to. I do have a PayPal account also. We would need the name of the funeral home, and as Brian said, decide what we want on the card.

Would someone like to step up and administer a flower fund for the forum? Unfortunately we've had several incidents in the past few months and something organized would be nice. We'd need someone with a paypal account and a credit card. Members can paypal their donations and whoever administers it can order flowers when necessary. I can start a new sticky thread that can be used to keep track of the flower funds donations and running balance. I'll paypal off $50 to whoever volunteers for this.
Thanks,
Todd

What does the family want?
Flowers or donations to a charity
When my father died we wanted donations to the local McDonalds house. Because of my mothers allergies.
We should keep the family’s wishes in mind.

I'm in with you on this, Todd. I think it a terrific suggestion.
I don't believe everyone can go for that amount, but I think they would submit whatever they could.
May I add...let us hope and pray that this would be the last loss for our family.

Todd and Fellow Forumers,
I really don't want the responsibility to tender the monies for a forum fund, (nor would you like my accounting skills), but I will order and pay for the flowers and help set up an account for the new forum flower fund. If we can get a consensus on how the card should read I will get it done. I’ll match your $50.00 to get this started. Let me know.

Brandon,
Go ahead and I'll send some money to you via Paypal. The card can express the heartfelt loss us on the forum are feeling. Even though a lot of us never meet in person we get to know people here on the forum as if we have met each other. I don't think the card needs to be long winded to let them know we are thinking of them during this tragic time.

Is this ok?
Everyone in our forum family deeply mourns the loss of Allen.
We may not understand why sad things happen, may it somehow help to know how much we care and enjoyed the time we had.

Can we use part of this fund to send something to David Holmes? I think he would appreciate something so he knows we are pulling for him and a full recovery.

Wayne over in the accident thread has been in touch with the family. Maybe he can confirm where we need to send it. I don't think the room number he gave before is the ICU room.

It would be nice to let him know we are Thinking of him as a Whole.
Sunstate is in. Thinking a Tree would be nice planted by the runway.
