Great video, thanks for sharing.
Flying a FW myself it can be fun landing in a cross wind.

my new x-wind r/w will be completed by noon.

The 2000' x 30' r/w is OK 85% of the time but there were days when I wouldn't fly because of strong x/w. Those days are over.

new r/w is 525' x 30' which is plenty adequate.

one nice thing about landing on a carrier was the wind was ALWAYS right down the r/w (almost).

Guess the ship kept her into the wind as well...

With about 40 yrs. of gyro flying, I've had many experiences with crosswinds.

Yesterday was somethin' new. I'm still thinkin' and tryin' to figure out what it was...my machine or ??

Harry,
Your first whirl-wind/dust devil, perhaps? They can make things weird.

I really don't know, Cody?!

CAT maybe? The wind was pretty stiff and gusting, from the NW. I was rolling on 36 and building rrpm...when a *giant air gun* hit me with a blast right out of the west. It lifted me off the tarmac and rolled me to the right. Experience and the good Lord, righted my machine and I tried to get back on line and back on the ground; as I was no where near good flyin' speed.

Just then, the west wind quit and I had to recover to the right...still not at flyin' speed. As I was about to touch down and get some ground control, the air gun hit me again and rolled me to the right. Again I recovered with left stick. I did not use any rudder during all of this as I knew that if I had rudder into this mix, as soon as the nose wheel...left or right...touched the runway, it was a rollover for sure.

I kept at full throttle throughout. The blast from the west abated again and I recovered...again...and continued in my takeoff. There were no further blasts from the west.

I had a rather bumpy ride of about 20 min. after this and was glad to get back on the ground.
