Hi guys,
My name is Dan Askew and I live in Tulsa, OK. When I saw the first illustration of Igor Bensen's creation on the the covers of my dad's Popular Mechanics and Mechanics Illustrated, I knew that was for me. Although my dad shared my interest, he unfortunately did not share my enthusiasm. So, my dreams remained just that until the recent impluse purchase of a neglected but mostly complete B-8M.
Jumping into the deep end is a poor time to realize you know little about swimming but, it creates a motivated learner. Now, if I had known about this forum and had read the post before the purchase, I may have made different decisions but, I didn't.
I welcome any and all advice that you are willing to share with me and hope you will tolerate my ignorance and let me draw from your knowledge and experience.
Thanks.

Hi Dan,

Welcome! You've come to the right place for lots of info and opinions.

We have an Oklahoma gyro enthusiasts group that meets the second Saturday of every month; this month we'll be in Guthrie, in June we're meeting at Page airport west of OKC.

Send me an email or private message if you'd like directions or more info.

Keep reading the forum, there's lots to learn here!

Welcome, Dan.

I live in Ponca City. Maybe I can come over some time and see your gyro.

Hi Dan, welcome, hey log into the rotary wing chat about 10:00-11:00 e.s.t. and you can alot of time find Paul Zurawski. he has a nice Subaru powered bensen. look under bensen pics,he can probably give you some pointers. also you never know who else may log into the chat and you can talk gyros with.
First and foremost do not try and fly your gyro with out training. trust me,they may look simple, but they do not fly like an airplane or a helicopter. take time and read the old posts on the forum. and you will learn alot.

Thank each of you for your warm welcome and good advice.

Michael. Thanks for the invitation. Contingent on the WWW (wife, weather, work) I will be there.

Alan. Sure! Since I have just purchased the Bensen I would like to have a little time to show some progress (and air the tires on my Cherokee and get rid of some of the junk in my hangar).

Tim. Thanks for the advice. I might have bought into the "teach yourself to fly" when I was ten but, in the years since, I have discovered that I am a poor student with a poor instructor when I try to teach myself anything.

Thanks again.

Dan,

Michael didn't mention it, but there is a Bensen flyer in our group, and a couple of guys that are working on Bensens.

Our June meeting/fly-in will be at Page Airport, near Yukon, where the Bensen lives.

Bet you could see it fly that day.

Alan,

Thanks for the info. I certainly need some face time with some Bensen owners/builders. I have so many questions that I am not sure I can address them all in this forum and I don't believe I think fast enough for a chat room.

I am planning on being at Guthrie but, Page is too far in the future to plan. I am a locomotive engineer for a railroad and am usually working anytime there is something I really want to do. I hope to be there.

Thanks again.

Dan don't let the Chat room worry you, most the time there is only 2 or 3 in there, it really has not cought on good yet, last night we had about 6 at one point. and you are more then welcome to join in and just jump right in. best way to learn is to ask questions and most the guys here are more then glad to help a newbie out.
