View Full Version : Services for Terry Eiland
I would like to say thank you to all of you for the kind words about my father Terry, and his friend Bill. I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Bill but I know he was quite a guy as dad spoke very fondly of him.
Even though I lost the best friend and greatest person I ever knew it helps to know he was doing what he loved and was surrounded by people he truly enjoyed. All you guys in the gyro community will never know how great you made him feel. My father loved gyros but he loved the people that gyros allowed him to meet even more. While I feel somewhat responsible for the tragedy as I am the one who got him interested in gyros I appreciate you guys reminding me that he truly enjoyed them and for me to rob him of that enjoyment by asking him to quit for my own selfish needs would have been wrong. The posts that you all have made have been very helpfull to all of us and again I thank you. Services will be at Saturday the 8th 10:00 am at Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church 4221 W. Gulf To Lake Hwy, Lecanto, FL 34461 (352)746-6200

David so sorry for your loss, I never got to meet your Dad in person, but talked to him on the Phone one time and thru E-mail,I was asking about an RF-170 gyro on the Forum, and your dad E-mailed me about one that a student of his had for sale. Even though I did not buy that Gyro,it was nice that he told me about it.
Please, instead of feeling responceable for his death,Look at all the lives you may have helped save,if he had not become a gyro instructior then think how many of his students may have gone and tryed to teach them selfs to fly. Also look at all the adventures that where provided to him thru the Gyro business. I hope these thought will help you feel a little better about getting him intrested in gyros.

I lost my Dad to cancer a few years ago. For the longest time, I would think of something that I wanted to talk to him about, then suddenly realize that he was no longer there for me to call. I still want to pick up the phone when I see some news about his beloved Atlanta Braves.....
In the past four days, there has not been five minutes when I didn't think about Terry.
Yesterday, I was going over my gyro, and I saw Terry's hand all over it. There's the plate over the bearing on the small sprocket that he emailed me about after seeing a picture I sent him. He insisted that I redo it because it was slightly off-center, putting pressure on the bearing.
I still have the video tape I made of him going over his gyro, pointing things out that he thought were important, like how he routed the pre-rotator cable or attached the master solenoid to the side of the battery box.
I'm sure that I'll reach for my phone to call him in the weeks and months to come to ask him a question. The guys at AAI are nice, but nobody has the experience of both building and flying the Sparrowhawk that he had.
Terry had me stay in his home when I went down to fly the required night and cross-country time in the Sparrowhawk that nobody else wanted to do with me. I don't think he had done much night flying in his gyro, but he was willing to do it with me. He was just that kind of guy.
I guess when it's all said and done, I can just say that Terry was my friend, and I'll miss him. But I'm sure glad I had a chance to know him.

I also am privileged to have known your father.
He taught me to fly.
He opened up another dimension for me.
He exemplified the kindness and graciousness that I wish I had more of in myself.
If he hadn't been involved with Gyros, I, and many others, would have never met him, and that too would be a terrible loss.
I still feel his guiding hand when I fly.

My condolences to the family. Terry now flies, held in the arms of a kind and loving God.

Good photos Jonathan. I was caught away from my cameras when the fly-by went by. Glad to see someone else caught it.

I would have like to seen that fly-by...but I packed up and flew home a day early.
Those two guys sure earned a lot of respect and deserve every bit of it.

Thanks Johnathan, Hey you should do a write up for the PRA Magazine about my days at BD Days 2006. You were stressed with having to go to the airport to get the wife and then back to the Airport. Thanks for coming down to visit, we enjoyed having you, and the Wifey. MJ :)

Today was very sad.
The whole Eiland/Finnegan Familys are in Pain, as they should be.
I still have a Hard time trying to convince myself that I wont see Terry again, till I rest.
His brother was at the Service today and I would of fainted if he would of been smiling, talk about Look Alike.
I hope that one day we know the Whys but not looking like we will ever Really know the cause.
