Does anybody know a shop which can calibrate a torque wrench?
I have checked mine which its three years old, by hanging a weight on its arm and multiplying the weight by arm in inches. The readings were far from correct. We use it often when retorquing wooden props, rotorhead, rotorblades and teeter bolts.
Thanks

What kind is it? I know that MAC and SnapOn will calibrate thier own wrenches for you. Or find an FAA repair station and find out where they get thier PME (precision measuring equipment) calibrated.

Scott you are right. It is even mentioned in their instruction/manuals that it has to be sent every year back to the factory for calibration.

I do torque wrench calibrations here in my own shop. I am a FAA certified repairstation (SY1R497K). Ship the wrench to me, I will test it and ship it back with a certificate if it passes. The tolerance for aviation use is 3% max error.

Not trying to hijack this thread...but recently I took a Sears torque wrench
back to the store in order to ask them where they would send their own brand
to have it calibrated. Wrench is about 20 years old. Clerk said there is
TOO much paperwork involved...so "just go get a new one and we will do an exchange" Mission acomplished. :D

The exchange torque wrench is still not calibrated unless you get an official calibration certificate with it. The certificate is good for one year.
