New CFI

I don't know how many of you know Rick Abercrobie, But he just got his CFI gyro certification. He is looking for a set of plans for a Parsons trainer.
Rick doesn't get on the forums, but he has over 20 years gyro, fixed wing. He flys Gliders, and hang gliders. Has gyro comercial rating, A&P ticket and IA, and some helicopter time. Very Qualified individual.
He is in the south Atlanta area, I am hoping he gets a two seater before too long, That way I can finnish up my dual hours where I left off with Steve McGowan.
Now that Steve has gone to Arizona, That makes Rick the only CFI in the southest region.

I work with Rick, and he has been a great help to me as far as building and soloing my gyro. Although I did my training with Steve, Rick has been there for me to ask questions, and he test flew my gyro before I took it to Macon.

Scott, if Rick is going to build a new machine to train in, why build a old school machine like a Parsons? My choice would be to build a Tandem Dominator or Aircommand type machine. Newer design, suspension, center line thrust, tall tail, horizonatal stab, etc....

I haven't priced everything out, but would think there would be little added cost to build the newer machines over a old machine like the Parsons.

While not many of us have the skills, experience and talent of my friend, Steve McGowan, there are a few more of us CFI's in the southeast.

Although I am pleased that Steve is joining the AAI family, I agree that it does represent a big loss to our "neck of the woods".

I just looked at the CFI list on the PRA site, and noticed some BFI's in the area, granted all CFI's aren't listed, I didn't mean any disrespect to any of you CFI types.

Ron, I guess that Rick likes the Bensen style gyro, and if someone else, has that same old style gyro, the Parsons is the closest thing. But I am not sure what he is going to do, I am sure he will not be building or buying anything anytime soon, I was looking over Dan Leslies 2 place Air Command, and that is a SWEET machine. Along with Bo Collins' 2 place Mad Max, But I was told that if you could learn to fly Steve's machine, anything else would be easy!:D
