When converting from magnetic course to true course, a pilot should

A) add easterly variation regardless of heading.
B) add westerly variation regardless of heading.
C) subtract easterly variation when on a heading of 360 degrees.

This is the FAA. Read carefully the question. This one is tricky. It caught a few of you.

Watch out! It says magnetic to true, not true to magnetic.

This is one of those deals where you learn the phrase, "Least in the East, Best in the West". You know it by heart. You got it.... But .... You didn't read the question carefully. Since it ask for magnetic to true, rather than the expected, true to magnetic, you make this easy mistake. In this case, "A" is correct. A) add easterly variation regardless of heading. The key, magnetic to true, opposite of what you were expecting. Sneaky, aren't they.!!!
