:o Well, here I am, for better or worse. Due to personal things, medical things and attending a concentrated class for one year, I have hardly been posting anywhere....or flying much. I do come here every day though, without fail and see what's going on. I've been averaging over 100 hours per year for the first 4 years, but due to circumstances beyond my control, I've only logged about 30, if that, during the last year. That will change for the better shortly, as I finish up my classes at the end of April.
I've seen some posts asking questions that through my experiences, or others I know, I feel I can be of some help. Many have to do with RAF/components and Subaru engines and additions of stabs and finally conversion to AAI's CLT design, all of which I have done.
Having posted extensively on Norm's forum in the past, I think I know the pitfalls I need to avoid. I will attempt to the best of my ability to refrain from posting personal feelings about certain things and present factual data that is substantiated. From a lot of the posts on RAF, I can relate, as I've been there. I can see that there is a lot of factual data on the components that need to be addressed, such as rod-end bearings, exhaust systems, ignition systems, engine components and other things that will keep the ship safe and the pilots alive....things that are not readily apparent from the beginning. I'll just try to be helpful and assist in avoiding the pitfalls that I experienced.
I love flying my AAI conversion and always have something stirring in the pot to improve her. I believe that I was the first to get a stab that was specifically designed for the RAF on the market. I think I sold about 35 or so of them. The design of stabs has been greatly improved upon by others and I just ran out of time and energy to continue. I'm particularly proud of having gotten the ball rolling and I'm convinced that several lives were saved, both by my stabs and those of others.
My website is attached, but it is stale. I haven't updated in a few years. Stefanos is now 7 years old. The photos of my ship are pre-AAI conversion, but there are a ton of neat pics on my Pic Page for those that haven't seen them. I've flown into Class B and landed at Lindbergh International with Stefanos for lunch, as you'll see.
I'll get to the questions and discussions that I feel I can contribute to as time permits. The suggestion of a thread for new RAF owners seeking info from grizzled owners is a good idea. I have over 430 hours on mine now. Later
