I can't be the only one in this situation-so I'll put this to the group for advice/opinions/experiences. Struggling with formulating an approach to transitioning from ultralight to sport pilot.
I'm a registered (before Sept. 04) ultralight pilot w/approximately 360 hrs. My intentions would be to utilize my experience to supplement the required flight hrs, understanding of course, a flight instructor will make the final determination as to one's readiness when endorsing for the practical flight exam.
Think I have a handle on the advantages/disadvantages of going the sport pilot route vs. having to obtain for instance a FW license and getting an add-on rating.
I do not intend on transitioning my old gyro but have plans to build a kit and register it as amateur-built exp. So I need info on any West Coast CFI's that are actively/currently set up to transition ultralight pilots to a sport pilot in the semi-enclosed gyro "set". And am I correct that there are still only 3 SPE's in the entire country?
Sure would like to hear from anyone who's treaded these water's before me.
