I operate a Helicycle and use a Hirth engine for propulsion.
I would like to add a governor to make the application more competitive with the turbine system which has a governor built into the engine control.
First thought using a cruise control to adapt but talking to Rostron they tell me this system will not work and never become stable- will continuously oscillate/surge. They offer no clue how to fix this.
I am wondering if there is anyone out here who can point me in a direction which will work.
My current thoughts are to adapt a model helicopter rotorspeed governor for this task as a first try.
Any help?

Avk,

This may provide some of the information that you are looking for. Control - Flight - Governor (http://www.unicopter.com/Governor.html).

Interestingly, the world's first production helicopter, the Flettner FL-282 (http://www.unicopter.com/0474.html) was equipped with a rotor governor.

You can speak to Doug Schwochert on this forum, who used a full electric cruise control for his AW95, which is used for Hot Rodding...This cruise control has many settings to manage what you want...This cruise control is used also for the Mostiquo.
DON'T NEVER SAY, NEVER... to a provider that you are gone a use his product for a flying device!!! he would never sell his product to you because he would think there is a liability issue!...(which is wrong for a homebuilt aircraft: only the homebuilder is liable for anything he put on his aircraft because he is the only one who certifies that this device is serviceable for this purpose!...)

Andr'e:
Thanks for the info-

BTW: I approached them (Rostron) to use the governor for a gen-set of a 50Hz constant frequency generator run by a diesel engine with similar dynamics.
I am aware of "Aircraft sensitivities" and liability concerns having worked for 35+ years in the field.

The new Ukrainian designed AK1-3 (www.aerokopter.co.za) utilsizes the Subaru cruise control as a governor on their helicopter and it worked pretty well when I flew it while doing climbs and decents to the hover.
They had the "will" so they found a "Way"
