Today I picked up a WRX Engine out of a late model Subaru -this is a 2000cc engine complete with Turbo --The car owner wanted more power so he put in a 2.5 --for $800.00 I thought it was a pretty good deal--Im going to contact Don P to see if he has thoughts on what electronics I need--if anybody else has any thoughts on this motor let me know---

I am installing a EJ20TT in a BD-4 with the Barnett Gearbox. Supposed to be 280hp but I am going to run lower boost and lower Max RPM so should do 230hp in the plane. I see JDM 210hp EJ20T's all the time on Ebay for $650 with less than 50,000 miles and with a 60 or 90 run warranty on the engine but none of the accessories.

Mike, it is important to get the computer and wiring harness with it. Those are reaaly great engines, but, you need all the sensors and goodies that go along with it. You got a great deal if you only paid $800. If you didn't get the wiring, intercooler and computer, see if you can go back and cut a deal for them before he sells them off.

I got my ej20tt from Japanese Imports, engine complete, both turbos, compete even with intercooler and exhaust pipe, wiriing harness and computer with all sensors $750.00. Looks like they took it all out of the car and did not cut a thing. These guys are great.

I don't want to rain on your turbo parade, BUT the KISS principle goes out the door with turbos. Plumbing etc make it very difficult to end up with a nice looking machine. A late model FI SOHC ej-25 takes a bit of beating. 167hp and SIMPLE.

The engine that Im getting has less than 40 K on it -- so I dont feel to bad about paying $800 for it --of course there is always a better "deal" outthere some where-- the computer and wiring harness does not come with it so I'll be looking for a wrecked car to pull it from or I may go with an aftermarket setup. As far as the KISS principle -well I usually go along with that. But in this case I'll make an exception. I've setup seveal turbos over the years and found them to be trouble free -it aint gonna be easy --but I think the challenge wil be worth it-

-good looking -who cares with a Turbo and an intercooler hanging on the back of my gyro it will certainly get noticed when I park it on the ramp -even if it never flies the shock value alone will be worth the price -

-Oh BTW - Im known as "MAD MAN MIKE"

Hello Mike.

Sounds good to me. Thats a hell of an engine and at 40K, it has just broken inn. Nice deal.
Look for a wrecked car and pull all wiring, brain box, inter cooler plumbing pipes clamps etc from it,careful when pulling the wiring, you will need the dash board wiring too, for ignition, warning, sensor lights etc.
Get an extra Turbo and waste gate valve while you are at it, complete with manifolds, sensors etc.
The Turbo boost should be manually controlled/override.
So one can change for cruise(2-4 lbs) to full power(10-12 lbs)

Have Fun and keep us posted.

Thank you.

Anyone who know the weight for these engines?

Thanks

Jim

Mike:
Get the VIN number of the car you took the engine off, it will help you cross reference with junkyards for the right control module.
Also, my electrician says he rather make a harness than fix one, just need the diagram.
Price was good, I had one here in Miami for 1.200 all inclusive.
thanks
