it seems we have a few people here with flyable RAF-1000's I think it would be intresting,to get some reports on these machines on how they fly and how the owners like them. I am sure Ben, would like to hear about them, and I am intrested just has a History lesson on the RAF-1000. would love to see pics of one in flight. what h.p. do they have and what kind of proformance are the owners getting out of the machines. more detail pics plz.

Hi Tim ,The raf 1000 is a very limited production bird, apx. 12 units were sold.At that time the single place 1000 cost was not much less than the two place 2000??? In cold weather the 1000 is great, proformance with 50 hp is outstanding ...I have 25 ft DW blades, I weigh 200 lbs !!! I have logged apx.170 hrs. in this gyro and loved it .Ill see if I can get someone to take some pictures of it flying.....As Ihave said before this gyro is not clt and even with a HS ,flying in very hot after noons or any time the air is turbulent should be avoided!!! One other thing ,doors on or doors off makes little difference, the view is better without ,but its a little colder..

RAF1000 stock comes with a high thrustline and no horizontal stab. Video of the original machine shows a very agile flyer. Modification to centerline thrust involves remounting the engine right side up with a slight nose down angle. Modification for a horizontal stab is pretty simple. These two mods alone have made the 1000 a very stable easy flyer. Dragon wings and a 3-blade prop designed for 2-cycle engines also help make it a nice machine.

I think Larry Boyer's mod could be applied to the 1000 just as easily as the 2000.

Mike, the video I have is a "training" video. Three gyros appear to be flying: FIEX, FFSE and FFTJ. Glad to send you a copy. My gyro trims out about the same, 65MPH @5600rpm 330r-rpm flying 23 foot Dragon Wings.

I have always had a thing for rare aircraft, that you don't see often. kind of neat on a history stand point.
