View Full Version : Eurogyro (formally) UFO (Out on a limb)

Well 2 & 1/2 years down the line, with many headaches, problems, modifications, more problems, more modifications I am almost there. "The UFO" read the website and its the best ever gyro, order and get your kit and 'your on your own'. Fortunately I was not on my own. I have had the expertise of a CFI to help build it. The only thing that resembles the UFO is the capsule/cockpit.
I have tried to obtain names and contacts who have purchased the same craft but have drawn blanks.
I would like to now start a thread which may help others along with my myself who have built or are in the stages of building a ufo/Eurogyro to share experiences. This is my first attempt at putting a thread together and are having difficulties showing photos so if there is anybody outhere (without the usual 'wot a wally') type of comments I would welcome your advice.
It will be good if we can get a forum going on this as I still feel out on a limb. Its almost at pre-flight trials now and will let you know how its going if I get responses

Hello Dave.
Very Nice looking machine.
Hope someone out there in the forum has the same gyro and could help.
Keep trying, you will get there.
Good luck and best wishes.

Hi Dave.
I have a A/C 582 single HTL with all options.
Mostly used for demo purposes to introduce this concept of slow flight.
This is the only gyro out here.
We are afflicated with Air Command and Magni South Africa which also covers
your land under.
We are presently pushing A/C 582 Scout (Low & Slow Flights)
Dominator 914 Turbo (High altitute) Magni M16 Turbo 914 (Air Transport)
These are the three gyros I have flown and can comment on there performance.

Hi Rehan thanks for your reply and wondered if you know anything at all about the air command two place side by side that they discontinued, or where I could get some info from

Dave hello again.
I would say go the Air Command website.
There are lots of A/C SxS flying. And its still being sold with the large tail.
Some are trainers. With high time CFIs fly these. Tandems are faster and heavy. Check the members aircraft and better ask them on the forum.
We at the Forum are blessed with members who are authority on Autogyro.
The finest in the world. With Superior knowledge.
Keep Posting we will get lots of A/C SxSiders soon.
Request GyroRon to comment please Sir.....Thankyou

Pick,
There's not many UFOs here in the USA but there's a couple. It's not very economical for us. I was always attracted to the design but then I noticed that not many of them were shipping, let alone being completed and flying.
I'm a bit of a wimp about one-off or ill-supported aircraft -- there's a lot of security in following the crowd. But as the UFO was (is?) produced in NZ you might get more reaction from the Aussie forum at asra.com.au (I think) because only one or two UFOs made it to the States, and more to Australia, I'm thinking. (Not that lots of Aussies don't hang out here, but none of them is a UFO owner that I know of).
As far as Air Command is concerned, there was an enclosed SxS model which was discontinued after a very few were produced, the 147. One of them pranged fatally (might have been the proto?). The open frame SxS is still produced AFAIK. There's a nose pod for it but not a full enclosure.
Rehan,
What's the altitude in Rawalpindi (I know, I could go online and look that up), and which airfield do you fly from? Is anyone flying up in the mountains, and if so, what?
cheers

Please test cautiously but vigorously for aerodynamic stability of the body in both pitch and yaw. Tests should include high and low airspeeds, high and low throttle settings, engine off and uncoordinated flight.
A number of gyro pilots have been killed by problems with unstable fuselages and pod configurations.
I don't wish to rain on anyone's parade, only to prevent more grief.

I had the pleasure of conducting flight tests on a number of Rafs with their modifications and on my Hybrid as I devenoped it. Some of this was to help with the gyro ATSM Greg G. was guiding.
This part of my flying career took on a whole new meaning to my flying. Most enjoyable and at the same time a little scary with the fear of the unknown.
Most recreational pilots do not cover all the possible scenarios in their testing, and rightly so. At that time they are possibly not at a safe standard to conduct that type of testing. That is fine until things go horribly wrong. Then it is too late.
I was happy when the stick fixed stability test requirement was removed. If the tests are passed up to that point, the machine will be ok. The stick fixed tests are good for people like myself developing aircraft for market. I want to know everything about what I am offering the market.
Does that make sense?
Aussie Paul. :)

More info........
A guy here in Oz......"Traeger" is his name, imported some of those "UFO'S"
way back, sold the kits, kept one for himself.
I'm told he spent countless hrs getin it together, had to mod this, had to mod that.............absolutely no help from the kiwi factory. Anyway, got it flying......now it's for sale :(
Was also told the other guys that bawt these kits, have givin up on the projects, one guy last count was $70 thou .........gave up
Read the publicity.........phew, I want one...........like bloody hell I do
BEWARE..............
Forgot..........A few months back, the manufacturers only flying machine, was destroyed in a testing flite, piloted by their own "test pilot", heard the company reasons, then heard different from a good source..........I know who I believe

Apparently very fast [the UFO] but like some FW designs that are very fast, they fly like a brick .I may well be wrong but I reckon their handling detriorates at slower speeds.
Will be interesting to fly in a SH as they are approaching the brick theory

CLS447 here on the forum has a side by side Aircommand. I flew it last year at a fly-in and it flew pretty good, BUT..... when flown solo you have to hold the stick to the side to counter the pilots weight and no passenger weight. That got tiring quick! Otherwise it flew nicely.

There is no doubt Ron that side by side two seaters need to have adjustable pitch and roll trim if they are to be flown both solo and two up.

Hello Kevin,
Rawalpindi airfield 1600 ft.
Islamabad/Rawalpindi are at the foot hills of the highest mountain ranges in the world. Northern Pakistan is full of advanture and natural beauty.
Only Helicopters fly between the narrow valleys and we have heliports as high as 21,000 ft.
You can see my thread Earthquake Eid and The US forces. Who are flying north these days from Islamabad to Kashmir Valley/Northern Area.
We are advocating for the promotion of Gyrocopters in Pakistan.
Certainly this is the most realistic approch, economical and safe, as helicopters are expensive and not ment to fly this high, resulting in misforchune.
Thankyou and Best Regards
