I found several Throat Microphones on the internet - used for motorcycles, aircraft and others. Has anyone here used one? If so, does it work to shut off the wind and engine noise?

Here is one I found:

Anyone know where you can get an adapter so it would work with an ICOM A5 radio?

Throat mikes work well for killing noise but they have one draw back and that is the letter T and the letter P do not sound well on a throat mike.

Ken,

Tony notes the major drawback above, and other consonants are also suppressed. It's hard to tell "S" and "F" apart, etc. There's also a resonant effect in the throat cavity, which sounds like talking through a piece of pipe.

These things can really make things tough for the guy on the receiving end. The in-the-ear mics are a little better, but they also suppress consonants.

I asked about it too and the consensus was they yes they worked but could be muffled. I am guessing a high dollar precision piece of equipment could result in good performance but like anything it can be tough and it can take time to get it dialed in.

I'm using one and the reports from the ground crew are great and are having absolutely no problems with hearing every word clearly ....provided the mike is in the correct position. Extremely important the position part !!!! This is a comparision to the normal mike in the helmet.
I also have a silcon earlpugs with leads coming out of them that plugs directly into the external speaker plug that give clear crisp audio with the volume at a very low setting . I now have great audio with great hearing protection with any helmet I want to use at a low cost.

I'm not able to give you the make of it [throat mike ] at this time.
